I am looking for someone to make a custom sign. I have an old Lionel metal bridge on my layout that was given to me by my dad. I want to fasten a sign to it that says "______ ______ Memorial Bridge". I want the sign to be in O scale, to look fairly realistic. Does anyone make custom signs like that? Thank you.

I started my layout July 1982. I used tubular track and it is still in service today. It has stood the test of time. I run trains often. Switches are Ross. To me that has been a good combination.

Here’s what complete elevation parts look like for an eight piece run of the 5-story building. We’ll be mounting, priming and painting the cast stone color today. It looks like the run should be ready by Monday. Remember that there are options for windows on all four sides, three sides (front and rear plus either right or left) or just front and rear (for the case when a building is placed mid-block). Well, this situation is certainly not specific to Lionel. I have to wait on hold for often long periods no matter which business I call for service. They all say by recording that “We are experiencing unusally heavy call volume at this time” every time I call anybody. What a crock.

I have all Ross track and switches (20) for my layout. I run a lot of cars with sliding shoes. I called Steve at Ross and he told me exactly how to tweak the switches. I took a dremel, and rounded down the spots where the shoe was catching. 5 minute fix and now all my rolling stock works perfectly through the switches.

Production on the 5-Story buildings will start today. There will be eight in the first run. Two will have windows on all sides, two will have windows on the right side, two will have windows on the left side and two will have blank sides. You will have until this coming Friday to let us know of your preference on brick or stucco sides and rear.

Switch (Turnout) Problem

lehighline ·
My layout has a mix of Ross Custom and GG switches. These are all the straight sided 100/101 series. My MTH 44 tonners have difficulty going through the straight side of at least one of my Ross switches. They have no trouble (so far) with the turnout side. The engine gets so far and just shuts down. When I tipped it to see where the rollers were, one appeared to be touching both the center rail and the running rail. If that is indeed the case, then I have a short and an explanation. If I run...

Another thing I learned about Ross switches, if you run an MTH T-1 steam engine through the switch go at a decent pace and not slow or you will short out in the switch. When I first got my new Ross switches I had to sand down some of the points in the switch, with my dremel tool, as they were very ruff, also had to remove some of the excess glue from the ties. Where do you file down the Ross switch to accept post war or pre war sliding shoes? Lee Fritz

Ross Custom Tinplate versus Gargraves Phantom switches

Oscar ·
I am working on rebuilding my layout due to moving into a new to us house. I have been doing some research on switches as I run 98% post war and conventional equipment. The problem is the sliding shoes on some engines and a few of my cars. My old layout had only O22 switches and O31 curves. Now I want minimum O72. Sommerfelds Trains of Butler, WI let me take home a couple of switches to test out. (very kind of them) I wheeled very slowly a couple of cars through both switches and operated...

Alan- We do not have fire escape doors on the upper floors of these buildings- its the climb-through-the-window look, at least for this first run. The way we have designed our building system, doors can be added if someone so specifies. All of our buildings will come prelit with each floor individually lit. The pairs of wire come down a styrene chase that is at an inside back corner of the building. Buildings over 8-stories tall will most likely have two chases as the wire bundle becomes too...

If you are referring to the two diesels painted by Bernie Winkler, they are definitely custom painted. The work and research to paint the NC&StL GP7 was tedious. He had to get the decals custom made, because as best we could find no one had done any NC&StL diesels in O-gauge. If you are talking some fantasy scheme, don't see that as any problem.

Need information for MTH 30-11005 CPL signal

If you have this signal I wanted to know if (and how) the back cover is removable to access the LEDs? I am looking to replace my now defunct Atlas CPL signals (greens failed) with the MTH 30-11005, but will need to gain access to the LEDs to rewire them to conform to the Custom Signals/Atlas system standard (5V common cathode configuration).

I ordered one off flea bay for $49 and should be here by 4/27. Surprisingly there are no more MTH 30-11005 CPLs out there for sale that I can locate. Seems odd that MTH doesn't churn out signals as bread and butter items. Game plan: I will modify by removing its electronics and wiring a phone cord to the vacated leads. The "drum head" will be opened and the Led pairs re wired in parallel with 1/8w ballast resistors and configured as anode driven, common cathode grounded, so they will work...

Marty I do have a 3 over 3 replacement board . Be warned, you need a really fine tip solder iron, fine gauge solder, steady hands and magnifier head gear, as the solder pads are small and most likely too much heat will lift or destroy the copper traces. Unfortunately I cannot guarantee the board will work (they did when removed), but price is free except nominal postage. I do have someone who wants them all but I can pull one out if you want to try fixing signal. I will ship them in next day...

Finished modifying (steady hands and magnifier required) the MTH CPL this weekend to work with Custom Signal/Atlas control boards. Given the way the traces ran on the "drum head" circuit board, I found I could reverse one LED of the pair and use fine wire to connect the other now open LED leads. LEDs were wired in parallel omitting resistors because too tight fit. Did this diode reversing for all three pairs then connected the leads to the 6 wire flat telephone cable. I then inserted a...

Yes and Yes. You need to realize that, at least for right now, they only handle warranty work- no repairs of out of warranty (OOW) items. This might change- but who knows? The OOW repairs need to be handled by their authorized service dealers. I have dealt with them three or four times- 2 times because I was puzzled setting up wiring for my switches, and two for loco warranty repairs. Eventually (maybe 20 minutes) a very nice person will answer and listen to your issue, and (in my...
