I have a Lionel Conrail sd40 #6308. There is extra space in the number under the can between the 0 and 8 only on one side. Is this an error ? Or did the real locomotive have this spacing. I recently got #6350 and the number looks the same on both sides
Hi guys, As many of you know, Lionel sent me two products to review for the magazine. Last night, at roughly 8:30pm EST I went live on Facebook and gave a basic review of the locomotive's features, and the Broadway Limited StationSounds passenger cars. If you want to watch the video, it can be located on my Facebook page here . Closer to the release of Edition 9 (November 30, 2018) I will release a video on the magazine's YouTube channel with a full-length review of the locomotive. I would...
Hello, I have for sale a Lionel 6-38919 Legacy Chessie SD40-2 #7611 for $365.00 shipped. Paypal is accepted. Shipping to the Continental US only. The engine was test ran and put back in the box. SOLD: Lionel Legacy Norfolk and Western SD40-2: http://www.lionel.com/products...diesel-6121-6-34776/ and Lionel Legacy Great Northern GP-7: http://www.lionel.com/products...-diesel-626-6-28563/ Both are in good shape, fully functional, the SD40-2's trucks make a slight ticking noise as it runs, likely the result of normal wear on the engine. The cosmetics are basically flawless on the SD40-2 and the GP-7 is flawless except for the missing front hinged deck plate which is present on the...
Nice to see someone just get it done - work through it, scratch your head, ask questions. Now, just think how easy the next project like this will be...uh-oh! BTW, as often as not, I will use double-sided tape to attach electronic components, depending on everything; it's legit.
Any of the Sunset/3rd Rail diesel models for 3-Rail will come with the "claw couplers", however they will have fixed pilots and full length handrails. The latest SD7, SD9 models come with a pilot inset so that, once the "claw electrical-coupler" is removed, then Kadee O Scale couplers can be easily installed. I'm sure the future SD40-2 models will be the same design.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! I just forgot about these for 20 mins and now they have been brought up again and the excitement and impatience is building again! I want mine now! Now! Now! Cannot wait for these!...........sorry I get a little excited when I think about this model. I apologize....
Unfortunately, reservations are not doing well so the SD40-2 project will probably be placed further out in the production queue behind other projects that have better reservations numbers. My guess is another project will be announced soon to hopefully pick up the production slack for late 2017. I've suggested doing an SD38-2 at the same time (which I am interested in) but there is almost nil interest in that option.
My wallet is happy to hear this news. This probably means no locomotive buys this year for me because I have 4 Atlas SD40's preordered and there is no way I expect to see these in 2017 let alone 2nd Quarter of this year. I don't think any of the F7's have been delivered yet and there about 8 other models that are behind in the production schedule.
Well that would certainly be a disappointment for me. If they get pushed out too far I may just start hunting for the overland models brass SD40-2's. Passed on one the other day and now I am wondering if I should have just done it. I know they are only available in 2 rail. But it is looking more and more like I am going down the 2 rail road. And sticking with second hand brass as so much of what is currently available is not meeting my expectations as a whole. And it seems that many of these...
Such a shame. O gauge market is dominated by an Older crowd, which is why you keep getting re-runs of GG1s, RS3s, F3s, Hudsons and Pennsylvania Everything. It won't be until 25 years (when we are the "older" crowd) when we will finally get SD45-2, F45, GP40X, GP50, GP40-2, B36-7, CF7 etc. As for the FP45 ~ MTH Mold is fine, they need to update the fans and that Hideous Fuel tank and make it a Premier model, we only get scraps when an item is too modern = it falls into the "good enough" category.
Hey now, some of us "young guys" model the good old days (30s- late 50s) I'll keep buying hudsons and GG1's as long as they're making them. That being said I would still be very interested in a 3rd rail FP45!
Scott Mann mentioned in another thread that he needs a minimum of 500 units ordered before the locomotive in question is produced. The SD40-2 is offered in 17 different paint schemes on the 3rd Rail web site. Does that mean that each paint scheme needs 500 orders to be produced or is that a total of 500 for the locomotive only. Maybe Scott can answer. I placed an order for two CP Rail but that may not be a popular road.
You might want to rethink that math. The total production of a diesel model needs to be at least 500 pieces. The general policy of at least 15 to 20 EACH of the various different paint & styling schemes, then comes into play.
Bear in mind at 450-500 motive power models per run Sunset is the smallest of the 2R-3R importers, Atlas while still considerably smaller than MTH and Lionel still brings in at least 1000-1500 engines [250 per rd name] per run and they do several reruns of the tooling over a period of time.
Atlas, MTH and Lionel have several different projects going on simultaneously with just a few road names of each. That way they can reduce costs by spreading them out over multiple runs of box cars and passenger cars and doing high end, medium and low end built at the same time. Scott's builders won't work that way. They are all of the old fashioned brass project world. They charge the same for medium and low end that same as for high end even if it takes less work. Scott also spends a lot...
Ive also been asking for FP45s for a long time. How many people have the El Capitan or want to run a combined train? The MTH version with those pilots and fuel tank are a joke....even under the RK name.
Hot Water knows his stuff, you will not find any discounts on Sunset, 3rd Rail, GGD. Buying direct from Scott is the only way to go. You will get factory direct trains, the ability to make payments on your orders over time even before they hit production, you'll get some of the best communication I've seen from any manufacturer and you'll receive unparalleled customer service. All of these things have far more value than any discount
There are hobby shops that deal with sunset 3rd rail. You might check with your favorite dealer and ask if he/she does. I know Dixie Union Station in Mason Ohio has been a dealer. I have purchased through him many times. But as Hotwater says, the markup is pretty small, so you may not get a discount.
