Gearbox 27323 1:43 scale diecast 2005 Chevy Impala Sarasota County Sheriff Department This 1:43 scale diecast vehicle is a neat model that could be used with O scale model railroads. It is a close replica of the classic 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The model has "rubber" tires, opening side doors, opening trunk lid and a very detailed interior. Typical photos of a prototype 2005 Chevy Impala attached.

Re: SC-1 DC

JohnGaltLine ·
The short answer here is No. The SC-1 uses a part called a Triac to control the flow of electricity. Triac's are perfect for AC power, but almost useless for DC because they can not be turned off if current is flowing through them. With AC power the current reverses polarity 60 times a second (in the US, anyway), thus the Triac has a chance to be turned off 60 times a second. If you had SC-1's laying around you could use one to trigger an AC coil relay, and then use the relay to switch your...

ed new haven line ·
James: While I do not have any of the Lionel or MTH scale GG1s and I operate on Fast Track using 048 curves my experience with what is listed in the catalogs and on the box flaps of locomotives is usually incorrect as to minimum curve requirements. Many of the locomotives I own operate on 048 curves just fine even though they are listed as minimum curve 054 so operating your scale GG1 on 060 curves does not surprise me. The manufactures are just playing it safe when they introduce a new...

If you loosen up the pilot trucks on the JLC Gs and grease them at the pivot points they will easily negotiate 072 curves and switches. At least mine do. I can't speak for anything tighter than 072.

About three years ago, I purchased a Lionel GG-1 with Magnetraction and a Pullmor motor. At the time I was running O-81 K-line tubular track. At any speed above half throttle, it would fall off the track. I sent it back. A few months back, I bought another Lionel GG-1, same set-up, and it runs absolutely fine on O-45 tubular track. My guess is the first one had some type of center-of-gravity, two inches above the pantographs.

Operating GG-1 on O-60 Fastrack

James Eaton ·
Fellow Forumites, I just recently acquired a JLC GG-1 in a trade. It is quite the beauty for being almost 10 yrs old. Anyhow, on my layout I have O-72 for Outer Curves & O-60 for Inner Curves. All my Switches are also O-72. Over the past several days, I have been re-configuring my track layout. On a whim, I decided to run the GG-1 thru a 90˚ section (4 sections of O-60 curves) and see if it would bind on the curves. It did not. Has anyone else...

Re: Proto-Sound 3 Powerports?

gunrunnerjohn ·
Do you run conventional or command? Unless you want to attempt to control the markers, I just use track voltage. For the flickering firebox, I buy the LED tea candles from a Dollar Store and remove the flickering LED, cheapest source I've found. They work great for the firebox, gives you the flickering effect for no effort, just a diode, capacitor, and a resistor from track power. You can power the classification LED's the same way. A 1N4003 diode, a 220uf 35V capacitor, and a 1K resistor...

I run command control. How would I wire to remotely control the marker lights and flickering firebox?

Re: Proto-Sound 3 Powerports?

gunrunnerjohn ·
Well, the short answer is, it's difficult and maybe impossible, depending on the actual installation. That's why I asked. I'm not familiar with the wiring on the PS/3 stuff, but for PS/2, the sound files control the functionality of the various functions, and if they're not in the product, you usually don't have that control. The simple way is to just run them from track power. It may be possible to trigger them from the headlight, but I'm guessing you'd need some electronics as I don't know...

Re: Proto-Sound 3 Powerports?

gunrunnerjohn, I will likely use track power to run the lights. Firebox could go either way, track power or smoke unit power. I need to test the smoke unit power output prior to making a decision. I appreciate your insight.

Re: Proto-Sound 3 Powerports?

gunrunnerjohn ·
I'm sure the 10ma or so of power for the flickering light wouldn't be an issue for the smoke unit power supply. They do change the power to the smoke unit based on the smoke output setting, I think that's a PWM signal, but I've never measured it.

I received my MTH EP-5 ( 20-5663-1 ) yesterday. Electro-mechanical art on wheels and worth every penny! Just as the responses in this thread indicated, the EP-5 easily navigates Fastrak O-36 curves. Does the EP-5 look goofy in O-36 turns? I'm not the best judge of that. I've been in the hobby for a year and my newbie eye has a limited frame of reference, as I only know O-36 thus far. I see my ignorance as an advantage in this case (bad pun intended). Thanks again for the advice. Copter

Re: New MTH 30-20182-1 Subway Issues

Strap Hanger ·
Paulie, this was a common problem with the MTH Railking sets. Some even had problems with melting roofs from the extreme heat (one of mine did this). What you need to do is place a strip of reflective tape on the inside of the roof, particularly above the lights. This will prevent any damage. Some of us even removed a few windows, or re-applied them so they would look half way open, to allow greater air circulation.
