Well guys and gals...I have been trying to get these pictures together since they were taken on three different cameras. These pictures represent the layouts we got to see in and around Springfield Missouri during the October 1st train meet. This is the meet during which we formed our Mid-America 3 Railers group. Members Roger Wasson and Vernon Hart arranged for the tours and each of the layouts were fantastic. The pictures below are a sampling of 3 of the layouts. The camera I took for the 4th layout had battery problems so I was not able to take pictures of it...so if one of you that was with us got pictures, please feel free to add to this post. I hope you all enjoy!!!

UPDATE...1/29/12, additional pictures posted below!!

Thanks,
Alan

These pictures are of Vernon Hart's layout....

The following pictures are of member Jerry Murray's layout:

The following pictures are of member Roger Wasson's layout...this is where I began to have problems with the one of my cameras and didn't know it at the time so the pictures do not do the layout justice. I am hoping the Roger will post more when he has time. The Springfield station is absolutely beautiful!!

Thanks a lot guys for showing these photos. A layout tour like this is a great way to share photos of each others layouts with the rest of us!

Perhaps our favorite 3 rail magazine could someday publish a special issue devoted to 10 or 12 member's layouts like Kalmbach used to do with their annual '10 best layouts' issues?
Dick....yep, we sure wish you could have been there. As you know, there are a couple of other folks that are members not that far from you. Perhaps we will see you at our next get together. Several folks have volunteered so I am sure we will have some dates soon.

Thanks Art...you are another of our members!! Someday we are going to get to meet!!

Alex...we miss you and Judy already! Perhaps it is time for you to present your proposal for February to the group as well as to the forum???

Hi Bill!!...thanks!! Proud to have you aboard...even though you are a distance away like Art...BUT...someday we will get together at one of our meetings, I am sure of it. I have to see that refinery in person!!

Thanks Joe. Maybe you may be interested in joining us??

Bob...you are correct!! Vernon is a Master Modeler and has won several recognitions and awards. The curbs even have the drains as you can see!! Hopefully he or Roger are looking and will have an answer to your question. I want to know too!!

Sam...always great to see your posts!! I know the guys certainly appreciate the positive comments from you...thanks!! You should make a trip to come see us!!

Jim....they make highways from your place to ours over here!! You can be my guest!! Would enjoy meeting you! I am originally a Hoosier too.. Big Grin

Mike...guess what I am having for lunch in just a few minutes!! Thanks!

Alan,
Could you find out what product or method Vernon used to make the sidewalks and curbing. I think it looks really fantastic and would like to do the same on my layout.
Thanks
Bob

Hi Bob,
If it is OK with you all, I will speak up for Vernon. These sidewalks are the ones that Scenic Express, one of our forum sponsors, use to sell. I believe that Vernon got these about 5 or 6 years ago.

Alan, I don't think you got more than one half of the layouts and I had sent Allan an email a few months back he should send a photographer down here and get your layout as well as Vernon's, Roger's and Jerry's.

Fear not, I haven't forgotten! Very nice views of some very nice layouts...and all in the same general area. There definitely is a wealth of talent out there!

Thanks Roger. I'll see if they still sell that item. I appreciate the information.
Thanks Al...there are quite a few really nice layouts in this part of the country that many folks don't know about. A lot of retired folks from all over the country have concentrated here and brought their toys with them!! Wink

Roger...thanks for chiming in and helping Boo Man out. I didn't know what Vernon had used for the sidewalks.

Thanks Don, Johnny and Paul...glad you enjoyed them!

Allan...thanks for keeping us in mind down here. I know it has been some time since you and I as well as Jim have conversed via e-mail about my layout in particular but I have been trying to get enough finished so that I can say it looks good enough for the magazine. I am simply running slower than I expected. I think I will be giving you a call right after the first of the year!!

Thanks,
Alan

Alan,

Do you know if these buildings are made from foam core or something similar?

Ted

These buildings are on Vernon Hart's layout and he does not post here on the forum. He is a very close friend of mine and if you don't mind, I will respond to your question.
Vernon made these from very thin plywood and then painted or added paper brickwork to them. He then detailed the interior of these building in a very creative way. I hope this helps you.
Thanks Roger for responding. Vernon is a master modeler and has won awards for his modeling talents. Vernon's layout is simply beautiful and each time I see it I learn something new.

Roger is following Vernon in building a world class layout as well....The Springfield crew are the best group of guys one could meet and I am proud that they are members of our Mid-America 3-Railer group!!

Does anyone have the Lilly Tulip paper cup factory on their layout?
I always thought it would make a neat model.

Garfield, thanks for asking.
Your answer is no, I thought that I would have room for it but I don't. There is an HO model railroad here in town that does have an exact scale model of this site.He took copies of the blueprints and made it happen....a very interesting site to see.
A few more pictures of Jerry Murray's layout. Vernon Hart along with Roger Wasson was an inspiration and assisted Jerry in the construction of his layout. A great group of guys (about 12 to 15) that meet every Wed morning for breakfast in Springfield Mo. Jerry and Vernon do not participate on any train forums.

The amusement park area.

A note to the Mid-American 3-Railers here on the forum:

This is my first post to the OGR forum; I have been lurking for some time.

I model the Frisco, MoPac, and T&P in 3-rail and live near Rolla. Currently, I am working on our family's second permanent layout (the first one a victim to necessary rearrangement of the availalbe space). No pics yet because the plywood is still awfully bare Wink

Anyway, I was wondering what sort of organization you guys have? How formal is it?

Thanks!
Not formal at all. We are planning on coming up your way this weekend. We all are going to the St. Charles, MO train meet. Alan, (here on the forum as leavingtracks) is the go to guy. Go to his e-mail address and let him know that you want to join. There are no dues nor formal meetings.
This weekend we are going to St. Charles and see Alex (Ingeniero No1) layout and other layouts in the St. Louis area.
Please send me your email address and I will send you an e-mail letting you know what is going on this weekend.
