I was able to obtain a DCS remote and it arrived with Ver 6.10 on it. Is this the latest version or do I need to upgrade the saoftware? I appreciate the help as always.

More importantly, it needs to be the same version as the TIU.

You can't determine what exactly will happen. When the remote issues a command, it may get back unexpected or even results that it can't understand. (The TIU may not understand the command either. )
It can freeze up. It maybe trying to do something but you won't know what's taking place inside.
