No - just print in white.  Then overlay with yellow.  You then have clear background.  Jim Wilhite and I did this a lot.  Works.

Same with paint.  You want a UP or CNW Diesel, or maybe an ice car? Spray white first.

We learned this on Piper Cubs.  Either eight coats of yellow, or one coat white, one coat yellow.  Some reds need an undercoat . . .

I'm not aware of any non-professional/commercial printer costing less than thousands of dollars that can print white.

Bob02, do you (or, for that matter anyone else here) have a printer with the capability of printing white?

FWIW, the attached combo from MicroMark claims to provide quality decal printing in white and yellow for $790.00.

imageDrives me nuts.  I prepare an elaborate response, complete with photos, and forget to hit the final submit button.  Gone forever!

Rather than investing a grand, do what I do, and contact a decal maker.  Bob Anson, of Jacksonville Fla, and a sometime participant here, does my current decal requirements.  Callie Graphics does my vinyl stick-ons.  Both are very good at what they do, and both are reasonable, as in around $25 for enough decals or stickies to do four or five cars.

Bob definitely does white on clear - see my Mobilgas tank below (above?).  Just get him to print white, then put yellow or orange on top of that.  Easy.  And he has fonts that you don't have.  His set did five Mobilgas tanks.  His decal paper is way better than Wilhite's.

Callie did the SOUTHERN PACIFIC on my NW2 - they are brilliant orange, unlike the Micro Scale decals.  The decals do not have white underneath, and the black shows through.  My photo does not do the colors justice.

Herewith:  Well, above and next post.

Here is the NW2.  Colors got washed out - believe me when I say the orange just leaps out at you.  You have seen my sand cast Erie-built, but note the cigar band.  Callie did that with help from Jim, a forum participant.  She also did a 15" high "Piper Cub Bear" for one of my airplanes!  No more hand-painting!

Let me see if I can get photos to follow my text:imageimageoops - no band on this one.  See my Erie-built thread on the 2-rail forum.

Bob2,

I'm saving this info about Bob Anson's service for future use.

Much thanks, seems an answer can always be found in this forum
