Curious to know how many forumites are taking advantage of LIONEL's 50% off on-line parts sale this week-end.

It would not have had my attention except that I have undertaken a project requiring a large parts order unlike anything I've done in the past.  In fact, I've been waiting for 6 months to pass to take advantage of the sale--I was relieved when it was announced a couple of weeks ago.

So, at 12:01 AM my cart was ready to go to check-out and, by 12:02 the order had been placed and recorded.  Now, the wait begins to see if those 54 parts ordered are in stock or not.  I wonder how soon I will find out.  (As Norton explains below, if LIONEL is out of stock, the cart/order form will say so; and, if there is insufficient quantity it will state how many are available.)

Incidentally, with all the recent talk about sales tax being collected on internet sales, LIONEL did NOT collect any sales tax on my order.  (As others note, some states do collect sales tax on the parts orders based on where they live.  I'm in VA and haven't been charged (this time) for an order in NC.)

If you were able to order them, they were in stock. Otherwise it would have said "unavailable" next to the item. If you had ordered more than what they had it would have told you that fact and only allowed you to order what they had left.

For those who have been to this event and ordered parts on site, do you receive the parts on the spot or are they sent to you later?

Thanks for the explanation, Pete.  Still waiting for the "confirmation" email for the order.

Question on finding parts: I have Lionel aluminum Milw. Rd. streamlined cars from some years ago...2010 to 2011, set #6-25622...and the trucks were less than stellar, I put them back together but the axles are subject to falling out...so to order replacement trucks (assuming Lionel ever made them) how would I find the part #?

Paul, if you take the set number and insert it in the search box on the service parts webpage, you will get a page showing the cars in the four car set and you can then click on the individual cars for parts photos and listings:

I did the first part for you

If you click on the individual cars, you will see photos of the trucks and an identifier number for them keyed to the parts list.  Unfortunately, the trucks you need are listed as "unavailable."

Yes, I may have been one of the first to call this morning.    I got right thru.     Easy transaction and a follow up email was sent quickly.     I was surprised Aaron answered the phone this time instead of Katie.   Got my parts ordered.     Stocked up on all necessary SMOKE UNITS PARTS and PIECES.       For me SMOKE UNITS are the Achilles Heel of every Legacy Engine I have.

You'll probably be waiting a long time. Lionel never sends confirmation emails.

I ordered parts this morning and didn't get a confirmation email from Lionel. I just took a screenshot of the order. They charged my card though so it went through.

FYI, taking a screen shot is not a bad idea but you should be able to go back to the parts site at anytime, sign in, and see the status of your order.

Usually it will say either "pending", "processing", or "shipped" along with a tracking number.

True. I just took a screenshot incase the site crashes, like it has over the weekend in years past for the 50% off parts sale.

Pete, thanks again.  Did as you suggested and my order shows "processing."

Lou--I also took a screenshot of the "order received" message; and, my card has been charged.

Well, that's interesting - I wondered what would happen if Lionel did not have a part you wanted in stock at the time of ordering. I have never placed an order where any part turned out to be unavailable or, if more than one, in the specific quantity I asked for.

Anyway, I would have saved some money if I'd waited until now to order some things I wanted in the last couple of months. But since most of the parts I need to get are pretty old - all for pre-Legacy models - I order them as soon as I identify the need rather than chance them becoming "unavailable."

This sale round I have only ordered spare parts for a particular project I have in mind. 50% off was pretty irresistible as an inducement to get them now.

If the item was out of stock but shown in the exploded parts picture and given a number it would either say "not available" or "contact North Lima". The box where you enter quantity would not be there. "1" is the default quantity. If you typed in 10 and they only had 8 it would tell you that quantity was not available forcing you to enter a smaller number until that item was put in your cart.

Many older items no longer even have the exploded parts picture, only a list of parts still available.

Pete

Just checked my order status and it shows "shipped" with a USPS Priority Mail tracking number.  I guess LIONEL's software works like eBay's--once a shipping label is created the item is denoted as "shipped" while USPS tracking shows the package as "PRE-SHIPMENT/ label created/USPS awaiting item."  The entry was timed as 4:50PM today.  Pretty quick response time for an order placed about 24 hours ago as I type this post.

The "Part Order Details" form is difficult for me to understand:  everything I ordered is accurately reflected; priced correctly; and, quantities are shown--but, every entry is duplicated.

Still, all ordered parts are listed; the credit card charge is correct; they are planning to ship my order complete; so, no complaints.

The prices you saw when you ordered should be with the 50% off. I had a list in there for months and at 12:01 Thursday into Friday morning it automatically dropped by 50%..

Exactly my experience, TN.  The $$$ amount of the discount is clearly stated at the bottom of the Parts Order Detail form.

The answer to my question, does it apply to Weaver trucks, the answer is yes.

Instead of searching for Weaver trucks, I came up with the idea of searching for "LionScale", and then find items similar to what I have on hand. PS1 boxcar was pretty easy, I got the trucks to be "3909000050".

A four bay covered hopper, did not find, but found a three bay, so I rolled the dice and ordered "3909000060", of which the side frames look spot on, but the coupler shank is a bit different.

Shipping was $10 to a Chicago suburb.

One at least one of the Weaver cars, the original plastic trucks appear to have the wheels too far apart and/or not on the axles square, so they rub on the side frames and make an annoying squeak. Besides that I am hoping the added weight will help them.

Note that MTH has Weaver trucks, and Beth/Public Delivery Track has MTH ones in stock, of which I have found here, but have not ordered:

Don't take anything above to be the gospel truth. Use at your own risk. I have bought from Lionel before using 'similar' and it was not good enough.
