Lionel Items Sold Out?

Hey guys this might seem like a dumb question, but what happens to a new Lionel item once it is marked "Sold Out" on their online store? Does this mean that they only make a limited quantity of that particular item and once it's gone, it's gone? Or is it possible that they will make more of that item in the future so that more people have the opportunity to buy one that is new from the factory?

The reason I'm asking is that I was considering buying one of the new Pennsy Lionchief Plus 2.0 switchers (2032050) but I when I searched the online Lionel store for it, it says Sold Out. That would be a real bummer if it really is unavailable now.

Search the web for Lionel 2032050. It is offered by many dealers. It is marked pre-order with delivery due Q2 2020. The Lionel online store may say Sold Out because the item is not yet available.

Thank you for your quick and useful reply. With a quick google search for the item, I see that it is still available to purchase through many online dealers. I guess I should have done that first but oh well it's good to know now!

Typically dealers will offer a better price on new items than the Lionel store.

Also, the Lionel store itself may be sold out of its pre-order allotment. Yes, any production run is finite, so at some point each dealer has to commit to a certain number of pieces so that the factory can fill the production order.

One tip. Don’t use the Lionel store as anything other than a dealer. It is not an inventory mechanism for what’s available elsewhere. It’s merely another store.
