i just picked up a legacy H7 that seems to have some gremlins.   Ive been fortunate to never needed to remove the front drive from any of my  articulateds and i’m a bit curious how to do so.   i’m sure it’s something simple i’m over looking.  getting the rear drive assembly loose was no problem but i’m stuck on the front. what i’m trying to achieve is basically separating the chassis from the boiler shell.   Need help would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like I've had the front engine on my JLC H7 off several times. If I remember right all you have to do is remove the large screw that connects the front and rear engine. There is a hook on top of the front engine that hooks into a bracket on the bottom of the boiler. Move the front engine forward until it will unhook from the bracket. Continue to slide the engine forward until the drive shaft separates from the rear engine driveshaft. Be careful not to lose the spring and washer that are on the hook. Also be careful about the flexible "pipes" that run from the front engine up to the boiler. It's real easy to kink and ruin these.

thank you this is helpful.   however it seems there is one difference.   it looks like they now use a pan washer and screw on the bracket to secure the front drivers.   it literally moves forward and aft almost not at all.  seems like the whole boiler shell needs to come off.  ever had the whole shell off? 

Maybe Lionel changed the front engine mounting design on the Legacy version from what they used on the JLC version. I've had the boiler top off also. Did you get an instruction book with the engine? That should show where the screws are that have to be removed in order to get the top section of the boiler to separate from the bottom part. They should be on the bottom of the boiler near the main driver on the front engine and under the cab in the back. There are several screws under the cab and its confusing as to which ones have to be removed. You may have to try loosening several until you find the right ones.

as it turns out lionel did change the mount.   i was able to get she top shell of through finally.   I had the right screws out but some bad wire routing had the shell in a bind.   one the shell came off all the secrets were revealed.   Thank you for your help!
