Jim, the layout looks great.  Amazing how quickly you were able to get so much done.

This Saturday I am hosting my small local club. We use to be 12 now we are down to 7 including myself. So for the past few days I have been cleaning up both layouts so I can run something on them. I am hoping that after a trip to Niagara Falls on Monday I can start devoting more time to get work done on the basement layout. Of course only time will tell to see whether something pops up that needs to be done first.............Paul 2

Johan, I'm glad the knee is on the mend!  The weathering job looks great!

Larry, Thank you for posting the great photographs of Farmer John's layout!  It kind of engulfs the train operator/viewer!!

Lew, Buffy has done a nice job up there.  Too bad she is stuck until the paint dries!!

Brian, More great photographs!

Bill, That isn't a bad idea to stay where it is cool and do some shopping!!

Mark. Thank you very much.

Johan

Bob, nice buy. Great paint scheme.

GANDYDANCER1950, nice job on the grocery store.

Johan, car looks great with the load in the door. And now I am going to have to look for one of those box cars for myself.

Today and tonight I got the basement layout cleaned up. I took out my last two engines I bought this year. I figure to double head them. Tomorrow morning I'll head up to the attic and get that ready. At least up there all I have to do is moved  couple of boxes out of the aisle for everyone to be able to get through. I think I'll get out the Legacy Niagara I bought last year. It will be the first time it has been run since last year when I took it over to one of the Tuesday night guys to test run on his layout. Pics of what is going to run tomorrow..............Paul 2

Just occurred to me - with a little pipe cleanup, some spray paint, and maybe a plastic building or two, you could turn that scene into an oil refinery!!! As GRJ says, "Nothing is so easy as …."

Did some under-benchwork tidying-up:

         IMG_3856

Fascia under the East End using the cheapest building material in the world: Cardboard   With paint on it only the hairdresser will know

        IMG_3854

Experimented with drapes under the West End. I think it needs to be about the color of the wall rather than dark. Opinions? Perhaps the same with the fascia?

Built the area for the storage tracks next to the turntable. Installed and wired the 4 tracks as well. Each track is long enough to hold an ABBA set of F units or an ABA set of PAs. The turntable is 30 inches. I built it to fit my MTH Premier Santa Fe Texas. It just fits. Everything works great so far. Still lots of scenery to build over the next few months.

...working on my mini farm scene which incorporates a couple of Menard's pieces. Installed wheat fields (felt like i was working for "Hair Club for Men" a couple hours into the procedure with all those plugs!). Also made the fence from some wood sticks, a bit of wash and some pastel chalks... ....dang aliens landed on it and broke it!

I didn't have enough room at the end of the table so I bumped out over into a wide entry space (with permission,  of course   ),  mounted on glue-laminated foam made from packing sheets. The whole scene is roughly within a triangle about 32" x 36" (including crop fields).

Lew - Love the idea of the cardboard fascia!  I may need to try that.   ....about the drapes, if it's just this one area where you're trying to hide some equipment, I would build a removable false cabinet front with baseboard trim to match your walls.

That right there is some resourceful modeling!

Thanks Lew!  I squirrel away any packing foam from packages we receive that might be useful.

The gravel in front of the barn still looks too coarse to me, like the tractor is driving over a "driveway" of 4-6" rocks.  I'm not sure what to do about it at the moment.

Scott

looks great love the farm sence. Try using sand or "N" scale ballast that's what I use it will look like 1"minus rock in O scale just a suggestion

Morning everyone, its been a few days since my last visit so I have a lot to comment about so you might want to get a cup of coffee, a little snack. LOL

John R, What a great plan, but I had to take advantage of the good weather to get as much done as I could before I might have to break out the rain gear! LOL

Chris I agree about the she shed. But this will carry me threw the winter and give her time to think of something for next summer! lol

Hawkshaw, Nice job on the Depot!

Jim, your layout sure is coming along very nicely! It's going to look great with the trees and all the snow you plan on installing!

Mark, it sure is funny how running trains seams to make things a little better!

Bill The Caboose looks great! I like the new lighting with the white interior. I will be a nice break room for the hard working crews in the yard!

Jim, nice work on the record store!

Paul 2, I hope you had a good time with the local club yesterday, Have fun at Niagara Falls for the last fling for the summer! You sure pulled out all the stops pulling out the new engines! They are some very nice engines!

Johan Amazing job on the Republic Box Car! Very nice work, but that's nothing new coming from you! As you always seam to do amazing weathering!

GandyDancer, Wonderful job on the grocery store!

Lou, the turn table looks great in place! Your moving right along and wonderful job on the storage tracks! Great Work!

Arnold, Very cool looking Sinclair oil derrick! I really like the Sunoco tankers! It all comes together very well and looks great!

Lew, looks like you had some fun with the switching at the Paint Factory! Nice job on the fascia! I really like the price of it. I agree I think the drapes need to be a lighter color!

Scottv, great job on the farm scene! I love how you put the Menards space ship in there to go along with the rest of your cows! LOL

Brian, As always you provide us with some amazing photos of your layout and engines! You sure have an eye for what really brings your layout to life! Its nice to know when I come on here I will always see more photos of your amazing layout and train collection!

Well today is a lucky day kind of, its pouring down rain right now and the CEO said today would be a good day for train room time so I don't get wet and sick! So today I will be spending as much time in the train room atleast till it drys out. The weather report calls for rain for the next 3 day, I can only hope! I hope to work on one switch that has been giving me problems, If I cant figure it out I will be getting ahold of Darlander for help! LOL

Well its Sunday so everyone take time to relax and enjoy some trains! I hope everyone's teams do well today and I know you probably wont be watching BOB, so if you want I will let you know what happened at the end of the day! LOL

What a wrap up Mike WOW

I think I'm going to watch with one eye open later. I'll hide my laptop though so I don't start shopping if the games go south.

Hope it keeps raining and you have lots of train room time. Good luck with the switch too. Check the rails on the turnout section and see if the points align with the running rails. Might be one of them is slightly out of alignment and causing the wheel flanges to ride up.

Thanks Bob, I will check out the  points, my first thought was that maybe the cars were to light but it does it to some of my heaviest cars also.

Hello all... Not much to photograph from downstairs, just about done with the curved main line and mine run over the new passenger yard,  got all the curves anchored and finished shimming the outside of the curves to create the "super elevated banked curves"....

Just came back from a local train show this AM,  got some really nice items.  Several of them of course I didn't even know I "needed"...   I had no plans for a oil/petro depot, but I couldn't leave the show without buying these....  built by someone who definitely knew what they were doing...

Lou, your turntable looks great, nice job,  many including myself wouldn't have taken on that project

Scott,  love the barn/farm scene, really well done

Paul2:  Your basement layout has really progressed since the last photos I recall viewing,  great work.

Hope to have a little more time this fall & winter to get back to finishing the main lines.  DSC03677 [2)DSC03678 [2)DSC03679

well...  if you had no plans for a oil depot, repaint them a copper color and add Dewar's logos and a few Scottish sheep in the area.... and i'll be right over for a fill-up.

The day went pretty good yesterday with my local group. The attic layout ran without a hitch and the basement layout just about did the same thing except when I was running the double headed engines through a small radius switch and the second engine truck jumped the track. Couldn't get them running right away so I put another engine on the track and the rest of the afternoon went with no problems. Later this afternoon with a burst on unknown energy I'm heading down to the basement to start some work...........................Paul 2
