Johan, wonderful video. I really like all the weathered cars and look at you having your own personal tank car! Very cool and nice work!

Jim, sorry about the trouble you have to go threw making all the recess! But a good thing is you Bob and I all got a chance to do some soldering today! Like you this is the first day I did not get mad at my lack of skills in soldering as I really enjoyed myself. You will see why at the end of my post!

Kevin, that's a steal at $10 for a 150 trees! Very nice station and as long as your having fun, that's what its all about! If you don't mind me asking where are you shopping for the trees and hedge?

John, nice work! But I have 2 questions for you. How many have you don't sofar? and How many do you plan on doing?

Alabama Joe, Looking great!

Paul, measure twice cut once! LOL Just kidding, I have done that so many times in my life I stopped counting! LOL Everything is looking amazing! Keep up the great work!

David, the trailers look great and really bring things to life! Nicely done!

OTTAWA Marc, nice work on the port hole. Also nice work on the ballast! Does it ever end? LOL

Oliver, its never to gross for most of us here! Feel free to post pictures! LOL

So as for me, today I had to take some stuff to the goodwill to drop off. Whenever we do I always go in to see if there is anything I need for the layout and today was a score for me. I have been fighting with my soldering iron and my skills soldering track. Well today I found a Weller W100P soldering iron. $5.99. It just has one tip but I brought it home tested it on some scrap track and it works great! I was telling Jim yesterday I was going to add a couple drops do to bad signal. Today I just soldered the track together where the problem spot was. Now I have 10's all the way around the room!20190106_16440020190106_164414

Mike wow thats a smokin deal!  Literally !! LOL    I got to looking at my soldering iron and it dont even have a name on it..  Cant blame the iron though. Operator error was all me.   But im learning.

Jim

I started painting the Lionel Challenger Dining Car interior. I will be cutting small rectangle pieces of plastic for seat backs and gluing to the squares on the floor.

This is the 62nd car I have done since February, 2018.  I have done 137 O-gauge cars so far. Some of my cars can be found doing a search for "Preiser 65602" on the internet.  I did not post those pictures, but they show several of my Lionel and Atlas O 21" passenger cars.  I am a little short of the 180 Walthers passenger cars I did in HO.

Here are the interiors for a Penn Central and New York Central Dining Car I previously finished.

Sincerely, John Rowlen

Fantastic work.

Bought some 1X4's today at Lowe's for my small layout expansion benchwork. I noticed the tags on the ends:

Label-lumber 1

Now, does anyone find this hilarious besides me? Using some of the most expensive labor on earth - German, this was grown, harvested, milled, cut, shipped across an ocean to me, in the Gulf South, where billions of board feet of lumber were cut and shipped all over the country and the world, and countless logging railroads prospered, and where thousands of square miles of timber still grow...well, you get my point.

We're just running out the clock.

LEAPINLARRY: Thank you. Your CSX -cars and the layout looking really nice.

Johan

John, your passenger car project turned out great. Nice to have that much patience and a steady painting hand to get it done.

Kon112H, enjoyed watching your video. Very nice layout.

D500, Before I starting buying my wood at Menards the last time I bought 1 X 4's from Home depot they were a product of Sweden.

Today after a bit of thought I decided to rework the second loading dock. The original plan was for half of the dock to be covered by roof. I decided to do a roof over the whole dock. Got all the pieces stained painted and glued. Even placed an order with Scenic Express. Maybe after dinner I'll work on it some more. Tomorrow is just about an all day train outing. First lunch with some TCA retired train guys and then Tuesday night it is our usual Tuesday night Crew get together. Pics.........Paul

Larry, the CSX cars look great! It was nice of your dealer to install all the people! Also, Nice pictures of your great looking layout in the background!

Paul, the loading dock is looking wonderful! I hope you have fun tomorrow, I wish there were more folks near me that were into trains!

So this afternoon I went out to the train room and worked on some switch's for my turnouts. Then laid some track out and got a few pieces installed. I still need more cork and curves. Along with a lot of switches LOL

Oh and I went to Walmart and picked up another 25 trees at a quarter each. Plus some flocked cypress bushes for 75 cents each! The will make great small shrubs!20190107_13382420190107_12453020190107_124538

Did you have to trim the lines right behind the wheels on your 1943? I had to because they were so long, they were catching the track and bending...

LOL I have the same ford truck, but the back of mine is full of kegs from the brewery! I will try and find it tomorrow and drop a picture here for you! LOL

LOL lots of people have the same vehicles for O there’s a limited amount of ones $15 and under.  At least the last buying some. I think we have the one truck in every color

Mike your killing me with all these trees!  I need to find more myself!!!  What are you doing with that switch? LOL   I didn't do much of anything to the layout tonight!  Put some smoke fluid in my lone diesel and ran it a bit.   With my new Lionel universal remote!  Its really cool!  Got all three of my LC+ engines loaded on it!  NICE

Jim

Oh and the new remote has version 1.2 on it.   Which Lionel says in the instructions doesn't exist yet!  But it is available on the google app LC updater.  It says it does more things??   EH? : )

Hey,  I was wondering where my woodie went lol. Your layout looks great I like the over head crossing signals

Thanks! Nice roads !  I wanted to paint the crossing signals flat black but my dad is a pain with some stuff and says they look fine..

The Second Union Pacific Challenger 2-pack arrived today from Nicholas Smith Trains, so I decided to paint the Dome Interior to match the other Dome cars before I mix new paints.  I added Preiser 65602 people I painted to the Dome Seating.  These people are in a different position than the previous Dome Coach and the Dome Observation.

I will paint the other Coach car from the second 2-pack tomorrow, then finally get to the Dining Car.  I ordered more paints so I can paint more people for these cars and the UP and CSX Theater Cars.

Sincerely, John Rowlen

Here is one of the more interesting ones I found this morning. A Corgi Toyota 2000GT with opening engine compartment where you can look down the cylinders. Rhinestone tail, head, and reverse lights and detailed paint in the cockpit. They don’t make em like this anymore!

Ectually,  that's from "You Only Live Twice", and those are rocket launchers.     Good find,  anyway!  Those are rare-ish.

OMG, I have that! Actually, I bought it for my son, when he was a little boy, who loved the James Bond collectibles.

Man, you could not have said it better: We are indeed just running out the clock.

Cindy and I are driving around the country at the moment, having just passed through Southern Oregon which at one time had lots of logging going on. Not any more. About 25% of what it once was. Sad to see. And then to see this! Made in Germany! WTH?

I know the answer. Any time anyone proposes more logging, the environmental whack jobs get involved and before you know it, we have spent oodles of money and carbon moving lumber from somewhere else in the world willing to take advantage of their own resources. Lumber is a Class A renewable resource.

So sad.

Doc, Sorry but you're WRONG! Germany has much more stringent environmental regulations (Fact - United Nations) than we do. It's really simply about profit (NOT a bad thing). In the late 1970's the average CEO's compensation was about 20 times that of his workers'. Today it is over 400 times that of his workers' (Fact - U.S. Dept. of Labor). Please if you're going to make statements get your facts right and don't name call ("wack jobs"). Not trying to start an argument; just correcting facts (the same as if someone claimed our transformer's output was 110V AC!).

                                                        last ore run...

                                                   all coming down...

tearing down more layout for a redo...

here is some of the N scale layout  under the o gauge...

Good luck, Brian.  I also, anticipate your posts on the redo.  I'm more than aware of that "kept growing" thing.

Also, how did you like working with the N gauge stuff?  I've thought about it many times, but, seriously doubt my fingers could keep up with those tiny wires.

What does a ceo's pay have to do with what Doc said? In the USA we have severly restricted logging for a number of environmental reasons, this more than doubled the cost of wood products. The cost of quality US made lumber is now so high it is profitable to ship and sell German produced lumber here.

The unintended consequences of feel good policies such as this always result in more damage to the global environment and increased costs than if we would have left it alone.

Mike, i would prefer to take this to a private conversation before it gets deleted, but you have not listed your email. Germany: In spite of stricter environmental regs.; higher or as high workman's wages, lower CEO's compensation = lower selling prices. Reason for higher prices in U.S. is CEO's disparity in compensation levels ALONG with a variety of other complex (shouldn't be a part of an RR forum) reasons. It's easier to come up with a simplistic answer and blame someone else ("environmentalists") and name call ("wack jobs"). My email is listed and i'll give you my phone # if you wish to continue this discussion.
