7DCF8779-5155-4CEF-9B42-619A94F68433I did another incandescent to LED conversion on an MTH Passenger dome car this afternoon.  Yesterday I had installed a switch in the bottom of the car so I would have the option of turning off the LEDs that will be in the dome.   It took me 2 hours to install everything.  Used fine magnet wire to connect those LEDs in the dome to the buck converter via the switch and a disconnect.  During the last week I also converted a couple of MTH ARR baggage and coach cars.

Spent time in the train room and got the roof done for the Engine building. Then the wife and I took tank for a walk, while out the big brown truck pulled up and said I have something for you, would you like me to drop it on your door? I quickly said NO I will take it now! Turns out it was the 072 curves that I ordered 2 months ago! So back to the train room switching gears and laid more track.

I attempted to build my first led lighted vehicle.  I have purchased these in the past and I figured I would try my hand at doing my own.  I got a good deal on a fishbowl bus at York and I also purchased the lighting kit from another vendor at the show.  After carefully removing the base from the shell and the interior I figured why not go all in and add some interior details. So I painted the inside and added a driver and about 8 passengers.  Drilled out the holes for the lights and carefully put everything in its place.  For a first attempt I must say it turned out pretty good and it only took 3 hours or in TV terms in the background 1 original Magnum PI and 2 A-Teams.  I find I work better with the background noise.

Then today, made some improvements instead of just playing around. Got some more “O-Scale” Soldiers in the Mail. This time, made by MTH Railking. Not as good as the O-Line reproductions but close enough in height.

I’ve begun the process of trying out different, non tubular track for my eventually expansion. I like the RealTrax so far to the extent that I’ve begun to buy it. Came across some Gargraves from a friend and order the mating pins for it to hook up with tubular. I also liked that ha.

Today I started working on a section that I had started sometime back and am making changes as I go, I had laid down cork through the Morton salt plant. After doing some re-thinking I took up some of the cork. At York I had bought switches and a cross over track from Ross.  I laid out everything to see how it was going to work. But I took up the track going through the Morton Salt Plant and added an uncoupling track. So one side of the crossover will service the Morton Plant and the other side will service the American Handling plants. A wrap for today. Tonight is Tuesday night train crew. Paul, looks good! I like how you have both industries on the same side of the tracks! Like Mark said looks like its going to work well!

Last night before I called it quits, I also had to pull up some cork. After I put down my 072 curves and rolled my longest car past the Engine building it clips the corner of the building. So I am relocating it closer to the front edge of the table to get it away from the curve and still have room to get my engines in and out without any problems!

I disassembled the HO track on the west side of MUK (My Underwater Kingdom).  Despite cleaning it with rubbing alcohol a few days ago, when I did each piece by hand I found some of them thick with black grit. It is the hardest-to-reach part of my lay-out, and I have more trouble with it than with the rest of the lay-out combined.

Someone on this forum suggested that I use a heavier loco on that track--because it is short and hard to get to a straight track, I have only used small locos on it. I'll try that on my next lay-out.

But on Thursday, we're going to Guadalajara and I intend to buy a new train!

Well, I never went downstairs on Tuesday, though I had the best intentions. Patrick's work schedule changed, and he'll be here on Saturday instead. I did get a couple of train related things done though.

I got a shipment of new Atlas 40' containers from Mr Muffin a few weeks ago. I never opened the box, until I got an email from Jeff saying to check the contents, as some cases had been mislabeled. Sure enough I had gotten a solid case of one road name instead of an assortment of two each of four road names. So after a call to Atlas last week for a return shipping label, I got that bad boy in the mail today.

The other project involved a bunch of emails with a few people regarding an upcoming layout tour where I'll be one of the hosts on May 4th. I'll be hosting two groups that day, the NMRA division, and my fellow Narrow Gauge convention layout tour hosts, as part of a round robin, so the hosts could visit the other layouts, since most were busy hosting during the convention.

I had chosen to be open every hour possible, and the attendance at my house was very disappointing. So far we've had two of these tours, and I went on both, seeing progress on a few layouts I had previously seen, and seeing a few for the first time, and a couple for the last time as they were going to be torn down.

It's good to get out and see what others are doing. Maybe that's why we like this topic so much, even though we just post pictures and videos on line. If you get a chance to visit peoples layouts in person, do it. I've seen a lot of great layouts in my life.

  Dollar Tree had 10 "puff balls" of fuax moss on styrofoam, and thet walk home held a stick. With henceforth I produced the finest of near herring proof trees ...or is it shubbery? 

Are prunings involved? Is that a valid point to be raisin' or full of wrinkles 

Kind of safari meets Whoville look, but ok by me.... except maybe the short tree on the left's lack of trunk taper, and a removal of the low branch to the left just behind that, and a trim of the upper left branch to hide the fat branch node (I'm using the photos & light background to decide )  

Right now they are all evergreens 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌳🌳🌲🌲🌲🌳🌳🌲🌲🌲🌲🤔

Elliot, Sorry Patrick didn't make it, but it is probably good that it gives your knee a few extra days to rest up! I sure hope you get the right cars this second time around, I can see how it can be frustrating.

I hope your May 4th open house is a hit this year, I don't know anyone who would not like to see your layout including me, but that sure is a long drive from Washington! I always try to keep and eye open to new layouts going up in my area, there just isn't any right now. There is one other person and I in my area. The other person sells trains at shows and stuff so I don't get a chance to see much of him.

Butch, nice find on the tree material. But I have to be honest I have never see a tree like those. Are they a Midwest or east coast thing? I think your going to do fine once you make your adjustments!

I bought two Railking Baltimore & Ohio SD9's from the 2002 MTH catalog a short while after they came out. I've always enjoyed them but after 15+ years of looking at the same paint scheme I decided it was time for a face lift. The prior paint scheme while prototypical was not one of my favorites.   I always liked the later blue dip with the big old "B & O" on its side. So that's what I did.

No. I would prefer O scale, but the Cuddlee and I live in a small house. MUK exists on a 6' by 8' table.
