Lee- I like the new additions. I know I've not been paying close attention lately but I do know  the difference between three and two rail track when I see it.  What's up? Did I miss something? Did you go over to the Dark Side and switch to HO?

I worked on the Darby O'Gill Supercomputer today.SUNP0001SUNP0008SUNP0012SUNP0011SUNP0010

I got the idea from Pinterest--you take an empty computer case (or even one that is still in use) and fill it with working people. Technically, the case takes up no room, because the top of the case (if it is flat) replaces the ground space you lost. And now you have the insides to provide more space.

I used Super Glue to cement a mainframe computer into place, but my most difficult task was getting a crane to fit inside all the wiring. An outdoor pizza oven, a secretaries' office, and a bathroom sink have all been installed.

Unconfirmed reports state that a computer technician accidentally brought a dinosaur onto the roof through a time machine, and that an alert security guard killed the creature.

Elliot, sounds good! if you get some free time could you do me a favor and explain how you paint your rails on your layout again! I know I have asked before, but I am trying to do things that don't cost money right now and I have a boat load of paint laying around!

Ralph, The 2 redone hoppers look great!

Johan, The Comet Brand box car looks wonderful!

Butch, great idea, well done!

Vincent, at first I thought you were thinking outside the box, WRONG it's all inside the box! LOL Nicely done!

John, I am sure you will get it hid! Looking good sofar!

Mark, way to keep up! I know sometimes its hard with all the work getting done! LOL

GANDYDANCER1950, Those milk cars look great in there new looks!

Lou, Nice job on the roadway and crossings! Its nice to give the employees an easier way to get to work so they are not late!

I did nothing but move stuff around into the train room, so my wife could have a little more storage! Tomorrow is Friday so I hope everyone has a great day and a good start to the weekend!

Sure Mike, it's pretty simple really. I bought a gallon of a color called potting soil, but you could just take a picture of a rail into the paint store and get it matched, or you could just pick a nice dark brown from the chip rack.

Some guys buy rattle cans to paint their rail, but I wouldn't want to use those in the train room, and just went with Latex. That's OK if you paint before you lay, but once it's down, I think the latex route is better. Beside, you can get any shade, and aren't limited to what comes in a can. There is one drawback to latex, and that is, it doesn't like to stick to the bare metal very well, and scratches off easily if you aren't careful.

To apply it, I just use the cheapest external mix air brush. You can pick one up on eBay for around $10 or a little less. Then you thin the paint to about the consistency of cream, and blast away.

Remember, everything that doesn't go on the rail, goes in the air, and lands on everything! I took an old desk fan, and an old box and a new furnace filter. Then I cut out the bottom of the box and had the fan blow into it, placing the filter on the other end to catch the over spray. It really helps keep the dust down.

It may take a couple coats to cover properly. Just let it dry between coats. I like to scrape the paint off the blackened center rail, making it black again. It's a little more work, but I like the look. I use a piece of Masonite to scrape the tops of the rail clean.

You shouldn't need anything close to a gallon for your layout. By the time you get it thinned, a quart should be plenty, but you'll need a larger container to hold it with all the extra water.

Thanks Elliot, I printed it out this time so I shouldn't have to ask again! I am glad you told me about the dust getting everywhere and your home made filter system. Looks like I have some work ahead of me. Clear the layout, build a filter box. That will take a little time, but better to do it now before the layout is really covered with stuff! Thanks again!

John, Nice photo also its nice to see you have the green light for the weekend!

I saw a real train TOFC with a flat bed trailer and thought "I can do that. I've got a flatbed trailer around here somewhere". Initially it was just the trailer but I thought it looked too bare so I added some merchandise on pallet loads.

I finished my Railking PC RSD-5. MTH omitted the "mating worms" logo

There, that's better.

Maybe I should send MTH the bill....

Ralph,  the pictures I found in RR Picture  Archives of PC 6804 show no “mating worms” on the sides of the short hood only on the end of it.  MTH didn’t necessarily omit them if they weren’t on the prototype.  Just saying.  I did find one or two elsewhere that did have the logo on the sides of the short hood.  So it appears either version is correct depending on the date.  They may have been on the sides early on but Conrail may have painted them over by the time the photo(s) was/were taken.

Over the last couple of nights after work I built a short road with grade crossings so the AT&SF employees could get to the yard tower on my layout (please excuse the drying glue/water mix).

Lou - your road looks great as does your layout!  I like how you used ballast on the sides of the road. Really nice job!

Thanks. I've see the same technique used on real railroad crossings in my area so I just copied it.

My layout isn't that nice, especially compared to quite a few on this forum. It's just ok .

This afternoon I redid a couple of the ground wires. I was having trouble trying to twist three wires together so I pulled them out and ran each ground to the terminal block. Applied power to the track and I ran an engine through the track to see if I had any bad spots. Found one bad spot. Engine ran through to the Morton salt okay but when I went in the other way to the Handling plant the engine stopped on the crossover. Got my voltage tester out and with transformer set at 17 volts I had 17 volts every where on the tracks. Going to try another engine later to see if that one will stop on the crossover. All and all a good afternoon. Pics............Paul 2

Your welcome, Johan!  I have a couple of the Atlas Master Series and love them too!!  I have several 2-bay hoppers and boxcars of their Steam Era Classics as well.  They are the best!

Thank you Mike,

Who would have thought a 28-hour a week job 1 1/2 miles from my home would crimp my style so much!    Well, our younger daughter borrowed my car for the last two weeks while their only car was in for service, so I've been taking my wife to work as well.  Then trips to the elderly, taking care of some things at my parents' empty house, and all my exercises have me feeling like the senior citizen the calendar claims I am!!    On another note, I received my first weekly numbers at this telecom tech support position I am at now.  Dismal considering I have 43 years in the business!    Actually, I think I'm doing not bad since I never handled the customer call-in troubles before, and no one has thrown me out that 2-story window around the corner yet!    I did file for Social Security this week, as my pay fits in for the minimum before they start subtracting from monthly benefits.  Mum just got word today that the buyout at the school district should go through, so she will be collecting a meager pension like me soon.  That's it; put us out to pasture so we can recuperate and enjoy our hobbies finally!!

Brian, All aboard Amtrak!!!

Paul, Looks like you have been quite busy indeed!  All that wire!  I hate wire, especially after working in the telecom and power industries my whole adult life!  The TH&B with the torpedoes looks great!!!  I thought about getting one in B&O livery, but decided with my limited engine funds to stick with Western Maryland prototypes!

Ralph, Looks like something good, I would say!  I have always used gray.  Is it better to use black if the final paint is to be dark?  I'll wait to see what folks say.

Brian, Very nice Amtrack train pictures! Brings up a question that I will email or call you about! I hope you and Marci along with Izzy are having a great weekend!

Johan, your more then welcome! With work like yours its hard now to say something about it! I love everything you share!

Paul 2, Looks GREAT! I sure hope you find the problem! I had the same problem but that was because of my lack of attention! I forgot to turn on the power to the inner track! LOL

Ralph, Go with black, everything you have been doing lately is black so why change!

Mark, sorry you have been so busy, I know the feeling. But it is the weekend so I hope to get a lot of train room time ! Like everyone else says don't worry it will be there, but I hate not working on it! LOL Take your time on the celling photos, no hurry. Just thought it would be nice to see it!

Elliot, I went to the store to get paint and they had no soil brown paint, but that's ok I waited 20 minutes for someone to show up and they didn't even know how to mix the paint! Do you have a picture of the color so I could print it out

After multiple interruptions, l finished the kitbuilt logging bunkhouse, and scratchbuilt matching cook house.  Put interiors in both, as a first.  Also touched up bashed Plasticville coaling tower, but it awaits a coaling chute.  As dollhouse heating stoves from bay never arrived, l scratchbuilt those for the logging structures, and guess I'll have to bash a coaling chute, too...nuisance!

Colorado, sure sounds like you have been busy! Can't wait to see the photo's!

Kevin,  the road looks great!

We'll I'm at the store this morning 5AM, cause it's shrimping day here and will be busy! I hope to get out early so I can work on my toggle switches!

Everyone have a GREAT Saturday !
