The plan looks familiar; i don't see it in either the Roger Carp book on Lionel Display layouts or the Display layout DVD from Trainpaper.com. Many of the Dealer Display layouts were 5 feet by 9 feet, others were 8 by 8. At 5 by 18, this would be a massive layout for a dealer display. It also does not have many operating accessories that you usually see packed on a display layout. If it was made, it may have been for a special customer, and not widely distributed. Typically, the dealer displays were sold in the dealer advance catalogs, below is a picture of what that looks like. I have three of advance catalogs and did not see the D-302. Lionel encouraged the dealers to sell the layout at the end of the season because they will find a "ready market" for it! LOL that is an under-statement!
I am missing the 1961 Advance catalog, I just bought on on Ebay, I will check that one to see if they had any D-302s. I have the 1959, 1960, and 1962, which would cover most of the super o era.
The 302 should be a fun one to build.

I did see reference to the D-302 in the CTT Special Issue Lionel Trains: Best Layouts and Store Displays which was released in the Winter 2015. On Page 113 the track plan was displayed. The caption underneath discussed the numbering system that lionel used for displays were not consistent. Roger Carp noted that lacking a full understanding he concluded "Almost certainly, the firm adopted a system of increasing numbers that included both regular and unique projects, such as the No. D-302 from 1960".

I believe Roger Carp referred to the D302 as a special project and no other info has ever been discovered. Very possible this is as far as the project got, one drawing.
