Greetings:

I recently came up with a long term goal (May 2021) of wanting to recreate the train that moved west from Michigan to Portland with the SP4449 on the point in October 2009.  I only have one volume of the DVD collection so I am watching it over and over to see the cars in the consist.  Here is what I can pick out:  4449 w/aux tender, Amtrak Genesis, Gordon Zimmerman baggage car, three Milwaukie roads(including full dome and the Cedar Rapids observation), three California Zephyr cars (only name I know for sure is the Silver Solarium), a Pennsylvania coach, a New York Central coach.  Anyone that has names, pics or info on the real coaches and/or O gauge scale versions of all these will be greatly appreciated.

Except,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the original poster asked about the 2009 "cross country trip" to MICHIGAN!

Depends what part of the journey you're recreating, as the Milwaukee Road cars were Friends of 261 cars that 4449 picked up in Minneapolis when headed east (and dropped off heading back west). 4449 spent several days in Minneapolis both times it came through.

BTW I believe the third Milwaukee Road car was the Minnesota River sleeping car, but not sure?

I was on the 4449 trip from Minneapolis down the Mississippi to LaCrosse WI and back that they did while 4449 was in the Twin Cities. Doesn't get much better than that - a classic steam engine running on a well-maintained mainline at speed.

Don't think so, as our engine crew used the Milwaukee Road sleeper all the way from Portland to Michigan, and return. I also remember that John Marshal had his family's private office/open platform car near the headend, adjacent to our sleeper.

We spent about a week in Minneapolis, inside the building belonging to the 261 folks, on the eastbound trip, and then the 4449 slayed-over for a few months, on the westbound trip, in order to be part of that excursion to LaCrosse.
