Yes, remove the rear wheel drive rod bolts. Also helps to remove boiler front and then the head light bulb before trying to lift the motor out. Yes, the back truck needs taken off to get at the nut that holds the motor in. Most times I use a rubber band to hold the drive rods at the steam chest as they tend to rub/scratch the boiler body while handling.
