I'm seeking a coaxial power plug (Size L - which is 5.0mm O.D. x 2.5mm I.D.). It fits the jack on Lionel's FasTrak Terminal Track Section.  I bought some from Radio Shack Online (#274-1588), but its cover housing is too small to contain the wires that must be soldered to its inside-the-cover terminals.  Is there another vendor who can supply this plug; a version with sufficient room for the wires?

Would a 5.5mm x 2.5mm adapter work? Take a look at ebay listing #292809943305 and see if something like that might work. This was picked this one randomly, you can probably find a US seller with faster shipping times. There were also several of the type you have now that might be large enough for your wiring?

This was the search phrase I used - Male 5.0mm x 2.5mm DC Power Connector Jack Plug Adapter. Other variations might yield different results? Amazon also has assorted items like this. I haven't located a 5mm x 2.5mm one.

There actually is a size L power plug that it 5.0/2.5mm, so maybe the 5.5 would be just a bit too tight.  Of course, the Type L plug seems to be a rare bird, probably why Lionel picked it!

FWIW, the power plugs on the command bases are the 5.5/2.5 size, that's what I needed to make my tethers for the TMCC buffer.

Right, there are plenty of 5.5 x 2.5 mm coaxial plugs in the marketplace. Apparently the difference of 5.0 to 5.5 mm (as the outside diameter is just enough to "not fit."  I bought two Radio Shack coaxial plugs as "Size L" and they fit the jack on a Lionel FasTrack Terminal Track Section perfectly, but the problem is, its cover cap is too small to accommodate soldering the output wires from a Lionel 74 watt wall wort to the very small solder terminal under the cover cap.  A case of "building a boat in the basement, then realizing that it's too wide to be moved outside and to the lake."

Regretfully, I cut the factory "size L" coaxial plug off the 74-watt wort so that I could attach the then-bare wires to a Lionel lock-on attached to tubular track. That worked fine for a while, but when I adopted FasTrack for dual circles at the base of the Christmas tree, I needed a "size L" coaxial plug. So I am my own worst enemy.

I sent a note to Lionel at their TALK TO US e-mail address and inquired about a "Size L" plug, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I wonder if "Size L" is proprietary to Lionel.

How hard did you look?  The two biggest electronics parts houses both have them in stock.

Mouser: Power Plug 2.5 x 5.0 x 9.5mm

Digikey: Power Plug 2.5 x 5.0 x 9.5mm

Try the big box stores for the crimp on connectors. You need the .110 size.

You usually won't find the .110 in stock at the big box stores, at least that's what I've found with Lowes or Home Depot.  If you have a electrical supply store in your area, you can usually find them there in bags of 100, or order them online through Digikey, Mouser, or Amazon.
