A short express train is leaving the yard early in the morning in late 1949.  The newly painted 50 footer will have that fancy Merchandise Service paint scheme only a few years before it goes to a cheaper, simpler, easier to keep clean scheme.

The engine is an AtlasO RS-1, the MTH 50' box is a simulation of an X41b, the next box is an AltasO X-29, the the third car is a Weaver B60.

I have this same unit in 2 rail. It was my first engine when I started my 2 rail layout. It never lets me down.

I have shared views of my layout from the 1920s, '30s, and '40s; here are two photos that blur the times between the '30s and the '80s.
Ex-NKP #577, an Alco C420, arrives at Notch Junction in a consist with MoPac #1310 acting as a pilot engine.  The diesel unit is on its way, via interchange, to the Arkansas & Missouri, where it will become that road's #57.

Although it carries fresh Nickel Plate paint, it will enter the shops soon for a new, maroon livery:
