Being a total DCS novice and tech challenged, a few days ago I shopped around a little for the DCS Remote Control Set ("DCS Set"), and quickly learned they are somewhat scarce on the market. So, when one of our Forum Sponsors had the DCS Explorer, I bought it.

My reservation with the Explorer was that I take videos of my trains using my smartphone, so I would not be able to run trains and take videos of them with the same device: my smartphone.

After I bought  the DCS Explorer, the idea popped into my head that maybe my LHS might have the DSC Set. Initially, I did not think my LHS would have it because my LHS focuses on Lionel, not MTH.

Low and behold, my LHS had 1 DCS Set left in stock, so I bought that too.

After reading through this thread, I am glad I bought both the DCS Set and Explorer, and especially the DCS Set.

One more thing: the advice I have gotten from this Forum, including recent telephone conversations I have had with several of you about DCS, has been invaluable. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Barry Broskowitz' book has also been invaluable. Besides being the DCS bible, the writing style (very plain English and clear) is outstanding.

What type of amazon fire tablet did you buy. I see they have several types 7 , 8 10 etc. I believe older iPhones will not support the lionel app. Will the amazon tablets work for the lionel app? Do these tablets use the android or apple version of the lionel and DCS apps?

I just noticed that Amazon has the 16GB "ad supported" Fire 7 tablet for $40.  I have all that I need, but if anyone wants a cheap, disposable "remote", this is a great deal.
