I'm considering buying the remains of a 182 crane, and among other issues, the electromagnet wiring is falling apart. Have you ever disassembled the electromagnet to replace the wiring? Is it doable? It appears from the photos, that it is a part that is pressed together, and not meant to be easily opened.

I know I can cut the wires close, solder new ones, add heat shrink etc., but I would want to eliminate the "patched up" look, and add more flexible wiring. So before I spend the gold, I'd like to know if this is possible? Thanks!

George

The screw eye that the ring go on that attaches the magnet to the hook is also the screw that holds the magnet together. If you can get that screw eye out the entire magnet should come apart.   Changing the lead wire is common, so I think most people are able to get the screw eye out. Remove the ring and insert a rod that fits well into the screw eye to remove it.
