As you can see below, my wiring setup has several places where I need to have 2 wires going into one post.
If I "splay" two wires and wrap them tightly, will they fit in the little holes in the posts?

You can use stackable banana plugs.
After you strip off the insulation, cut half of the exposed wire off each wire and then wrap them together.
Take both wires, add a third wire, twist all 3 wires together, use a wire nut to firmly hold the wires tight, then use the third wire to connect to the post.

No. That reduces the ampacity of the wire at the point where you reduced the diameter.

If you get 1/4" spade terminals (to fit the TIU posts) and size up (e.g., use a 10-12AWG terminal for 2 14 or 16 AWG wires), you can crimp both wires in the terminal and then connect to the TIU post
OR
You can put 1 wire on a terminal and clamp it in via the screw post, and put the 2nd wire in a banana plug and just plug it in the end of the terminal
OR
you can put each wire in its own terminal, and screw both terminals down by putting the terminals bottom to bottom so the wire loops oppose each other
I either use the crimp spade terminals or the banana jacks for the job.
If crimping anywhere, I suggest not using the el cheapo single action crimpers, and getting yourself a ratheting crimper. Harbor Freight has one that is not bad.
