Hello. I am gradually getting into prewar O gauge, bought 2 225E locos recently, one is just a loco and tender, the other is a freight set with operating dump car, operating log dump car, gondola with barrels (original!), and a tinplate 2600 series caboose. I don't have any prewar catalogs at present, was wondering when the locos and the set were sold. These are superior runners, and the former owners took very good care of them, almost no blemishes or signs of wear. Thanks for any info! Luke

The 225E was introduced in 1938 along with the 224E and 226E. These could be black or gunmetal gray (except the 226E which was only black). The 225E was gray in 1938, either gray or black in 1939 and 40, and in 41 & 42, was only black.

In 1938, the 2265W or 2225W sheet metal tender was cataloged. The 2265W was paired with red 2600 series passenger cars whereas the 2225W was paired with numerous freight sets of 265x cars.

In 1939, the tenders changed to the 2235W and 2245W die cast tenders.

In '41 and '42, a plastic tender was paired.
