Electric RR Co upgrade for Williams GG1

This particular loco, no - but, I have upgraded several Williams locos, diesel/electric

and steam. All the diesels/electrics are essentially identical internally, so...

Piece of cake; if you have the scale GG1 with a plastic body, even better. Antenna will

be a 60-second installation, as there is no die-cast body/insulation issue - and this is

not an issue, as they tell you how.

As recent (that is, post-brass/Samhongsa) Williams locos - except for the mechanically excellent new WBB 4-6-0 - are all geared marginally to poorly, you will definitely want

to spring for the Cruise Commander rather than the less-expensive DC Commander.

Both work (I used the DC Commander in my WBB 4-6-0 - doesn't need Cruise), but

Cruise in your GG1 will be welcome.

Try it; it's straightforward. Just be patient with it and yourself, as it is apparently

your first time.

Yes, it works great!  I had my scale GG1 upgraded.

I installed a Cruise and Sound Commander in a traditional size GG1. No problems with the install and it works great. Some have been able to fit the larger Railsounds Commander as well. Go for it.

I put an ERR sound commander in an 18003 Lackawanna Northern.  My first attempt at this sort of thing.  It went well cuz I read the directions about 5 times.  Really pleased with the results.

I recently upgraded a scale Williams GG1 with a Cruise Commander and RailSounds commander.  I also added upgraded lighting all around.  I built a module to control the cab lights and Rule 17 lighting as well.

John, what is with that motion sensor?

The motion detector is a little circuit I brewed up to sense when the motor had power, hence sensing motion.  It drives a relay with two sets of contacts.  One set switches out a resistor to turn the headlight on to full brightness when we start moving, the other set of contacts opens up the cab light so they go out when we start moving.  These are features of many Legacy and PS2/3 locomotives, and I wanted them for my TMCC conversions.

I used individual LED's for the markers and headlights, and the cabs are lit using incandescent bulbs, I just like the wide angle lighting they give me.

  Today you'll have to go with the full-RailSounds package as the Sound Commander is no longer made.

I also did about 2 years ago to my Williams GG1 and F7.Mine works great,it did take a little bit of help from forum members to getting it working just right.
