Very nice work! I think Tom's layout is Fn3, which is basically G scale for narrow gauge. After about the 4 minute mark on the video you can see the relationship of the trains and the people behind them who are operating them. You get a better sense of the scale at that point.

My personal favorites have always been George Sellios' Franklin & South Manchester, probably the most famous (HO) layout in the world. If you're in the Boston area (Peabody) and have an appointment, you can see some of the most amazing modeling in the hobby on Saturday mornings. Definitely worth the trip. I also love Vic Smith's City Edge layout, which is of a more modern period than George's and is filled with images and scenes that we all have seen at some point. George's layout models Boston in the 1930s and I think Vic's is St. Louis.

In O scale/O gauge, my exposure to some great work is almost exclusively through the OGR website and aside from the incredible modeling work of such forum members like SIRT and Vulcan, among others, I think what I've seen of Moonson's (Frank) layout is fantastic and he raises the bar for setting scenes and vignettes. I can study those scenes over and over for details. And Jim Policastro's work is always a great pleasure to see and learn from as well, not to mention (although I will) his terrific sense of humor that expresses itself in the layout indicating that to his credit, he doesn't take it all that seriously.
