Add to the massive size 4 motors per locomotive and you can move some serious tonnage across a pike.  I can't wait to watch these monsters pulling long trains.

I have the #80 Coal Turbine as well. I use it to pull my beer reefer train. You are right about the 4 motors. This is a pulling beast. While I do plan a PS3 upgrade, PS1 is good enough to pull cars. FWIW, I tossed all of the traction tires in one loop around the layout the first time I ran it.

I bought it not too long ago from a forum member. (Thanks!).

Nicely detailed with or without the load.

I didn't add all the cables and spacers...they're still sealed in the baggie, NIB.  This is the first time I've pulled it out of the box.

Enjoy.

The Union Pacific type locomotive is a unique locomotive to add to any collection. For those of us in love with big UP steam, it doesn't get any better than a 4-12-2 rigid frame locomotive!  It was the largest non-articulated engine on the UP line.

I like the old livery.  Not the era I am going to model but real trains didn't have 3 rails either!

Atlas O just announced more Steam Era Classics - Rebuilt Wood Refers in the PFE/Overland Shield Scheme.  Might look pretty nice behind your 4-12-2 or Y-3...

Whenever I order Atlas O cars I usually order all four numbers.  $80 bucks a pop is steep, but I know I'll have a heck of a time finding them later if I don't.  Plus the shipping container makes it easier to store them.

The overhang isn't as bad as the last photo makes it look.  Keep in mind this is 0-138! Since I have a few articulates, I've decided to compromise the straight runs on my new layout design in favor of broader curves.

The articulates look much better on the curves than the 4-12-2s.

I wish I had the room for O-138!  The biggest I can support now is Atlas Track O-90 with O-81 on the non-visible backside.

You wouldn't happen to have any O-90 that you can take the same aerial shot and front end shot from with the big boy?  I would really appreciate a posted picture if you do.

As packed up as I am It will be a while before I get the JLC out again to see for myself.

Thanks but it's not worth the effort.  I'll get around to it.  I just figured if you had it handy.  There's been plenty of previous "overhang" threads with enough info for me.

Put the order in w/my LHS in the 2 road numbers for the recent UP/PFE Atlas-O rebuilt wood refers.

Still on the fence about the MTH Shay. Jerry has it displayed and it's staring at me every time I walk into his shop.

Remember even the Union Pacific had to restrict the big boy to certain areas because of the overhang. They also moved some tracks around curves at a few places where they ran.

i found the best curve to use on my layout is at least O88 but the wider the better. my widest curve is O96 and it runs and looks great doing it.

WEAVER U3307LD OUTSIDE BRACED BOX CAR.

These are the only two Weaver Models cars that I have.  Ultra Line.  Nice car decent price. You can get it in a cleaning car version but I only bought two regular road numbers.

I only have one road number for the MTH and Lionel offerings, Two of the Weaver.  As stated earlier I try to order all available road numbers 2 or 4 car sets from Atlas.  Otherwise trying to find 4 different numbers from older releases is a real pain in the arse.

Ok maybe I'm feeling a little bit Passenger too.

MTH 20-68116 STREAMLINED RPO

It's a nice car but a newer release than my 5 car passenger set and sleeper/diner 2 car set.  The trucks are nicer than those older cars and the diaphragms are too.  The ends are grey while on the earlier sets the Yellow wraps around.  I kind of prefer the wrap around look.  I honestly haven't researched which is prototypical but then again these are kind of generic cars anyway....

Nope.  I've just decided to pull out what I've picked up over the last three years and take a look! Cleaning out the crawl-space can have it's advantages too.

Spence, Thanks.  Maybe I'll have a layout to run them on someday.....

Great detail, and smoke unit too. Will look great behind any freight Big Boy or Challenger.

Fantastic detail for the price.  Planning to run behind my 4-12-2. It also looks even better with Bourbon.

ATLAS O TRAINMAN 0509-1 40' SLIDING DOOR BOX CAR

Exactly what it's supposed to be...a reasonably detailed scale size car for a reasonable price.  Looks nice enough but I'm not a fan of the black roof and ends.

The quality/detail has been praised and the correctness debated in many previous posts.  I like it.  Especially the stacked box load feature inside the car.

Ok, enough time for one more before I go...

MTH 20-97282 34' COMPOSITE HOPPER CAR W/COAL LOAD

Mike does a good job with detail on this one.  Heavier than you'd expect too.  You can remove the coal load which is a nice feature because like most coal loads the detail is....meh.  The discharge chutes open nicely and the interior of the hopper has nice detail.

It also comes in a 6-car set. The previously posted Composite Gondola and the soon to be posted Flat Car with Sherman also come in 6-car sets.  I just don't have room for a train that long so I only have one of each.
