Thanks Dave for the support of Bob's suggested fix.

I think the swing of the tender's coupler is limited by the body of the tender as shown in the picture below.  The tender has 2, what the heck to call them?, "pieces" that stick down lower than the coupler assembly and those "pieces" stop it from swinging further.

At least that's what I recall seeing  (stuff if put back away now).

Walt,

You are also correct on this point, on some of the tenders the inside small tabs at the very back end of the tender, need to be touched up with a Drem on both sides to run on 031 RealTrax, if I remember correctly.  Walt the easy fix is just to run your train on 036 or 042 min curves, the bigger 036 & 042 RealTrax curves cost very little money.  Walt I do understand your frustration with this problem, in reality it's MTH that made the mistake, buy not actually testing the full train on 031 track and then packaging the train set as they did.

PCRR: thanks.  Actually I'm more "disappointed" than "frustrated", since I only use RealTrax for a quick summer time setup for a day or 2.

Knowing "the rules" that apply, I suppose, gets to me though.  Those will be defined as I learn more about my 2 tin-plate trains though.  Only had them up for this one Christmas so far and that was a disaster, so hopefully this year's all 42" and greater curve layout will help define a few more of those unwritten rules.

I don't want to mess with the makeup of the tender unless I absolutely have to and from you and some others are saying, I SHOULD BE fine on my broader curves going forward.

BTW: My bigger 'O' gauge, tin-plate, Blue Comet handles the RealTrax just fine.

Walt,

Your 263E engine and tender will run on 031 RealTrax, in fact it will run on Conventional 027, and even pass thru the 027 switches, excepting the big 810

Crane Car..  However it was really designed for O Guage track, infact my fathers pre-production original Lionel 263E work train, came with a set of 072 - 711 switches, right in the Lionel Wooden Box, housing the entire train set.
