How is the #317 truss bridge normally supported? I see two screw holes in the bridge floor at each end. Were these somehow fastened to lionel piers? I was planning to incorporate the bridge in a string of #111 trestle bents however the spacing is different. I can build piers for the bridge if needed.

I don’t recall Lionel making any bridge piers for it.  It could be used with the Lionel trestle set.  You can check, but I think the bridge predates the trestle.   Like most Lionel of the era, it was made to sit on the floor under you Christmas tree.  If you were lucky enough to have a table, it could be screwed down so it didn’t shift around.  While made as a toy, it is well made and a nice truss bridge replica.
