#3520 searchlight car on Lionchief set

The Lionchief power supply is DC, however the Vibramotor that rotates the searchlight needs AC. The Lionchief set will work on AC, so you need to find a "regular" transformer if you want rotation.

I did follow advice and bought a preowned cw-80. Your advice was transformer not cw-80. My question

now is do i run Lionchief at 18 volts and will that be too much for 3520.

The 363 lamp used in the 3520 is a 14V 0.2 Amp G3.5 Globe Miniature Bayonet Base type. A quick search has brought up a lack of applicable bulbs in an 18V version. However, you can run your LionChief set at 14VAC, or even more (possibly even 18VAC) if you can accept reduced bulb life and watch the increased heat emitted by the 14V bulb.

        I found a LED 1445 18 volt mini bayonet at Town and Country which says replaces lionel bulbs. It says ac or dc. I

The 1445 is specified as 14.4V Lamp, not 18V. However, I see T&C is stating their are 18V 

FWIW, the LC and LC+ run fine on as low as 12 volts on the track, so tehre's no need to change the bulb, just lower the track voltage.

             No noticeable speed or power loss. It sure would be the easiest way.

It'll run fine.  I suspect the top speed may be slightly less, but that's normally not an issue since you can probably launch it off the tracks at full throttle anyway.
