I have some clear PLA and it’s been fun to play with. I am filling markers/class lights and numberboards right now. Insulators might be achievable at .06mm resolution. I tested the clear stuff on my original rotational radial flux density variator, just wanted a cleaner print for the Q2 (to bring this back to the OP).

I installed another on of these cams I got in an engine. This time it was in my 4006 big big. Another engine with that larger 2 chuff cam from Lionel. I used my Dremel to grind down the cam a little to fit and attached it to the axle with the same adhesive. Made to sure to sync the chuffs with 0,3,9,12 on the driver's. Sounds good now. Needs a cruise m and super chuffer now.

I wasn't sure if making smaller cams would help. I don't know if it's a wheel size problem or a cam size problem.

The wheel size is the issue.  4 chuffs/rev would be the same no matter how they were generated.  Also, it's not always 100% reliable substituting dry contacts for Hall Effect sensors, so that's another issue.  In this case, the replacement cam is a solution looking for a problem.

I have finally gotten around to finding a worthy candidate for my original idea. My M1b blew its EOB guts out a while back and I decided to finalize the quickie ERR/RS4 job I gave it. I had to mill a slot to expose the mag cam but luckily I recently acquired a nice little Sherline 5400 that made quick and tidy work of it.

Also made a little reed switch holder that gives me a bit of chuff phase adjustment. It was important to achieve nice crankpin synch for my chuffs.
