Received the other 2 units yesterday..

These are my first 3rd Rail diesel engines.  I am very happy with them!  The only knit to pick would be the silly looking crew figures.  I dremeled them away from their seats.  I glued Artistta figures in the lead engine and left the seats empty in the trailing A.  That is a very minor knit!!!

I have a couple questions...

1. Is it possible to turn off the cab light?

2. The R100 setting is the optimal setting for these engines, correct?

3. Once you select R100 with the CAB2 you don't have to program the engine with the crazy Aux 1 - Boost- code, correct?

The Aspen Leaf is one of the prettiest around. It's surprising that none of the 'Big 2' ever produced one before. Even Williams had a good variety but neglected this one.   I created my own about 7 or 8 years ago with a pair of Williams As and a MTH Premiere B. It was a relatively easy scheme to do and someone on the forum made the decals. It turned out pretty good for the time. These eclipse my meager efforts by a long shot however!

This has been produced by Key Models back when they did there PA's several years ago. They were all brass and very rare. I think 3 sets total. they where in the 4500.00 price bracket for an ABA set .

In answer to T4TT's question.   I'm not sure about 3 rail TMCC engines but for any 2 rail folks watching who may have the same question I offer the following.

In 2 rail QSI DCC one can alter the on-off behavior of all lights in the four states the decoder recognizes: Forward, Reverse, Neutral from Forward and Neutral from Reverse.   Individual modification for each light or group connected to one specific port.  In past 3rd Rail diesel projects most if not all lights have a dedicated port (except dual markers, class lights, etc.).    The intensity of each can be individually set.  Many also have a variety of effects like Mars lighting and Gyra-lighting.

The best example I have is not a diesel but my Sunset UP 844 steam engine with the same QSI Titan Magnum decoder.  It has separate controllable lights as follows. Engine.  Headlight.  Mars light.  Class lights. Number boards.  Two work lights over drivers on each side.  Cab light. (Coulda done firebox glow but didn't).  Tender.  Backup light and  markers.  All independent.  Each with varying brightness adjustments.  

I have similar but less dramatic adjustments to my Sunset diesels.   First thing I always do is way lower the intensity of all the lighting -- especially the cab lighting.  And viewed straight on those LED headlights will burn a hole in your retina (not really).  But, different strokes for different folks for sure.  If you like 'em bright, fine.  It's all good.  

These are beautiful engines well done by Scott and team for sure.  Thanks for the excellent photos.  My Grande silver/gold 4 stripers should arrive today or tomorrow.  Christmas in March!!
