3rd Rail has announced E60 locomotives in Amtrak and NJ Transit.   There are a few different models in Amtrak versions.   E60CH, E60CP, and E60MA.  Doing a few Google searches I have not yet sorted out the differences.  Can someone clarify the E60 differences.

"From 1986 to 1988, the remaining E60s were rebuilt. The E60CPs had their steam generators removed and four had head end heating fitted. The original E60CH and converted E60CP units were then re-designated E60MA ("MA" stood for Motor Alternating set), and were renumbered in the 600 series".

I can't take credit for this, the Author ,James St. John published this article on flicker. But this is some of the information that I found while searching for the answers to the same questions you posted.

From what I gather on various pages , I do not know what the acronym "CP" and "CH" designation means as compared to the "MA" acronym designation, but the CP units had steam generators for some of their old pax cars that were heated by steam and the CP units had Head End Power (HEP) for the newer type equipment. I could not gather what visual differences there were if any. I'm sure people with more knowledge that what I found will chime in, but for now I hope that helps. I learned something too!

I use to see lots of E60s that Williams sold back in the late 70s. They were a little shorter than scale but the cheap looking pantograph and the freight engine trucks stopped me from purchasing one. Then in 2000 MTH offered one in both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit but they did not get enough orders to have one produced.  Now Sunset Models / 3rd Rail hopefully will receive enough orders to have them produced.
