Hi Folks,

Now that the GP7s and 9s are almost finished (Shipping to us in February), the factory is asking for specific breakdowns in 2R and 3R for the F3 Second Run and Krauss Maffei. This means time is now limited to get your reservations in for these two projects. To reserve use the link below. If you have any questions, send them by email. I don't monitor the forum everyday.

Thank you Big John.  I see just photos of a Northern Pacific F3 on the website (but very nice photos!). Does anyone have photos of the Great Northern F3 that they could post or link?

If you click around, you will find pictures of the GN F7’s from a few years ago which will give you an idea of what the paint scheme looks like on an F unit. I do not have any photos of the GN F3’s.

A note on QSI vs. ESU 2R decoder Installations:

We have made swapping these systems as easy as "Plug and Play". Barring the programming for each engine type, all ESU installations will use the same plugs for track power/ motor / lighting and speakers as the QSI system. Not sure about the QSI "RESET" switch.

We will be selling the ESU systems with this Sunset Models "Plug and Play" main board in the coming months.

We are out of QSI boards and there are no more to be produced as QSI doesn't have their system chip for sale any longer. So if your QSI system stops working you can easily replace it with an ESU system purchased from us. This took a good amount of planning and design work from both ESU and Robert Lopez.  THANK YOU ROBERT.

The message this gives should be that if you buy a model from Sunset Models, you don't have to worry about electronics being available in the future in case you need it.

Regards,

Scott Mann

When will you let us know which F3's received enough orders to proceed with production?

If some did not make the cut, can you advise how many more would need to be ordered to meet the minimum?

After seeing photos of the Southern green F3's from the first run, I really want a set.

Thanks,

Don

Well those with orders in that are going to fly have received a notice from Scott with roads listed and $ shown to be due. My NDM reservation is “a go”. In past, I’ve had a notice when an item was not going to fly. How about anyone receiving a “go” or “canceled” notice let us know. Just trying to stir the pot and get some reactions ......

Does that apply to second runs?  I thought everything from the first run was a "go" since all the prep work is done already.

I’m sure that’s Very helpful .... But ..... if there are only one or two reservations it’s possible it may not go. I had an Alco second run be a no go for not enough interest. I’m going to guess setup, Change-overs etc just become too expensive.
But I’m just guessing ....

We are ordering parts for the F3s based on reservations received before February 10th. Once we reach the maximum numbers of 2R and 3Rs reservations are closed. We are not running any new roads in the 2nd Run. It's strictly a re-run. Prices to us are up due to a low US$ and ever increasing costs. I am not passing it on. If we do these again, they would be more costly to make.

Container costs are through the roof.  In October 2020 the cost of a 20 foot container was about $3000 delivered. They are costing $6000 now. The Port of LA has 700 long shore-men either quarantined or sick. 35 container boats are anchored off shore, waiting 3 weeks to get off loaded. It's a mess out there.

So gettem while their hot... The F3s I mean.
