I have a great running Marx Canadian Pacific.  I recently aquired a Green and Cream 100005 with a windup engine.  I bought it for the shell though windups are facinating in their own way.  So, I swapped the engines but the CP engine makes the 100005's engine looks like it's doing a wheelie.  looks stupid and causes issues.  I'm really good with part names so bare with me.  I'm thinking I should be able to swap the front mount on the CP with the windup.  by front mount, i mean the cross piece that the screws go into.  i think it will get me closer to level but I know somebody out here has already dealt with this.  also thought about drilling pilot holes that are lower but i just know that won't end well.  Thanks for any insight!

Now, on to a tanget somewhat related to my M100005 engine issue.  I have 2 daughters 13 and 16.  Last fall my youngest told me I had to grow up.  My oldest just shakes her head.  By no means did I have a large layout even though I cycled thru lots of stuff thru the years.  let's say the post office knows where i live.  about thanksgiving i sold off all my stuff but a harry potter train and Christmas cars.  I had quit following this forum entirely until my trains and layout was gone with Christmas coming.  I saw the Streamliner thread and I thought they were the ugliest thing ever until I saw a few videos of them running.  So, when I was off on Christmas, I bought one.  I bought a second set looking for a better observation car.  my intent was to sell what i didn't need.  yes, you know where this is going.  I bought a cream and green with an ugly engine.  bought a second set with a better looking engine that's a windup with intent to swap motors and sell extra.  I was downstairs this morning trying to swap the engine.  they don't make these any more.  so, i decided to keep my less than perfect pieces as backups....i found a need for all of them!  i've decided that i have a sickness and confession is good for the soul.  but I would like to thank the people that run this forum and all you folks that answer questions for people like me that are just a little touched in the head!  Thanks, Jeff

i swapped the fronts on the canadian pacific and the old windup and the engine now sits level in the cab...now i have to figure out how to get the light out the front a little better.

Hello.  I am trying to get the light out front on the same engine. It is powered by a 999 transplant and the light is actually mounted on the motor. Did you find a solution you will share. Many thanks. Ray

I understand your "sickness" perfectly well.  I found someone selling off the last pieces from her deceased husband's train collection, which included a Lionel 259 and tender it visibly good condition.  Also in the lot was a Coca Cola switcher from a 1974 special set.  Since she was selling it for only $20 and on ebay it generally goes for around $50, I bought it with the intention of selling it.  Since I later realized I happen to have another car from the set, I looks like it's gonna be running on my layout for a long time coming....

I'm also looking to swap out the dead electric motor from a later-production green M10005, so I'll be watching this thread closely.

Kind of along these same lines.....sort of. I have a M10005 in excellent cosmetic shape and it does run reasonably good. However, I would like to use it in an automated store display and what has been holding me back is the "fat tire" through the turnouts. What I have been thinking about is pulling the Marx innards and powering it with a Beep motor and running gear. Haven't done a thing to start this project, just kind of thinking it over. Any comments?

Just find a smokeless 666 or 1666 or 400 or 490 with a double reduction motor. Those motors can be swapped into the streamliner with little trouble, once you swap the front mount and remove the stud on the rear drivers that holds the drive rod. All it takes is a screwdriver, dykes, and pliers. Much simpler than a Beep transplant.

333 is a six axle motor and will not fit.
