I received my set last afternoon,(UP mth solid rocket transport)  what a beautiful huge 8 axel cars, I hesitate for a few years to add it to my collection afraid they will not fit in my layout due to their width 3 1/4" I had no problem, even they are huge they fit pretty well with a little more hang out, about 1/8" more than a premier 70 fotter passenger car.
I adquiere this set from Mr. Muffin. I order it Friday night and get it next Wednesday free shipping, couldn't believe. When I tried to log in the engine in my system it read ENGINE ERROR I email Mr Muffin costumer service  about 9:00 pm and they reply me with what to tray and offer me the alternative to send the engine back for a replacement if I could not fix it, I did what he suggested, reset the engine from the Z-400 transformer. Here how to do it, tap whistle-horn once, tap bell bottom 5 times, engine is reset, place the engine back to track log it in and there is this beauty running.Once again thank you Mr. Muffin, I am still wondering how you have customer tech support at midnight lol, thanks

I agree, Forrest.  I ended up buying two sets.  One I run with the covers off - just so interesting to see the various parts of the rocket inside.  The other I run with the covers on, but empty (how can you tell?).  I have assembled the various parts of the rocket and have it on display complete.  BIG rocket.  Very cool!

This thread inspired me to make a special display shelf for the rocket itself.  As I said I had the rocket sections from one of my sets out of the cars and assembled, but I had the rocket standing in an out of the way corner. There really wasn't a great place to show it off.  Most of the display areas in my train-room are made to show off long, low things, not tall, narrow things.  So . . . took all of ten minutes to make and mount.

No, Mth never made the leader car, meant to make clearance, I just bough today a car to build one but I like the car so much I think I wiil keep it as it is.Love your display, I wish to have a space but I have my layout in the car garage, here in FL forget it the humidity and heat will damage the locomotives.Love the rocket assembled.0502151840

-WestinghouseEMDdemoguy - sets are available without an engine! See page 126 MTH 2014 v1 catalog.

Were. All gone.

With the price for the set, engine plus 5 rocket cars, you get better deal than with the cars set only, I have the Dash8 from NS, and now I add the same engine from the set but UP, is beautiful, another engine to my fleet won't hurt nobody so I'm very happy, I mean I am talking if you get a good deal like the one I got from Mr. Muffin.1430821027015-1025729756

To be honest I couldn't resisted after Lee posted his thread, I think he kick up the sales, I am very happy with this set and happiest after found out that its really goes well in spite of its width 3 1/4"  through my layout. Now I can wait for the Lionel Legacy MOW crane I ordered last year and now reschedule for Dec.2015.

Congrats on the layout!!!

Cute puppy, but your avatar is supposed to be a picture of you. Not fussing, but don't want to see your picture deleted and have you wonder "what happened?".

The MTH product locator is showing one available under "find it locally"!

We can pull the engine out of a set and just sell you the cars. Call us tomorrow. 317.569.1999.

thanks.

Would you do this with other MTH sets, especially if they were "pre-ordered"?  I've often found a set I want but would prefer a different engine.

I have the 2010 NASA version of this set and I want to know how you separated the rocket parts from the cars.  Maybe I'm missing something but the rocket parts seem to be glued to the cars.
