Hello,I just got my first TIU,and a friend loaned me a Hudson Steam Engine & Tender to be able to test it out.I thought it the sounds would be much louder than what they are. What is the yellow screw type adjustment on the bottom of the tender for?Is that the master volume? How else can I get more sound volume out of this thing. The smoke unit is truly impressive, but otherwise,I am disappointed  at the level of the sounds. What am I doing wrong?,or is that all there is??? -Thanks,Kenny

Dcs command over rides any conventional settings. As mentioned try    Menu/Sound/ and set each to 100% . Example.. select the bell, scroll up the volume to 100% and press the thumb wheel to lock it in, Whistle is next and so on.

Hot  ..  Tim has the correct buttons for the dcs remote.  1 smoke on/off.   2 &5 for volume

Sounds like you just described a Lionel TMCC Cab-1 controller. With the MTH hand held controller for DCS, there are separate "volume" and "smoke" buttons.

Look again, he is describing the buttons for the DCS controller.

There you have it Kenny.  You didn't reply back to my message, if you were using the  remote and TIU or conventional.  What transformer are you using for power?  Did you put the inline fuse in, like some folks reminded me of, but I already had learned that.  I run that Hudson at about half volume and it's plenty loud for me even with my slight hearing loss.

let us know.  These guys will make you an expert before you know it.

Hello,Thanks everyone. I read the manual a little more, and I got the sounds up to 100.I must say,for all of the hype and expectation,I am left a little disappointed by the sounds produced by the DCS train.

For as much as everyone here raves about it,I just was expecting so much more!Everything ran fine, using an old Lionel RW transformer. The signal strength was 10,track voltage at 17.9

Guess I am just too used to my old Lionels, making their own 'clickty clack',or maybe I need to give it more time to grow on me.I must say I am impressed by the smoke unit,I need to transplant some of these into my postwar units, now that's some smoke there son!!!!

But so far,it seems as though these engines sound and look the best running at very low speeds, something I am completely not into.I like to "highball" my trains, and at higher speeds, this thing kinda reminded me of 'The Sound of Steam"old Lionel sound.

I Guess I will give it more time to grow on me,but I am not impressed by this as I thought I would be.

If you adjust the volume using DCS and then run it conventionally That volume setting will be the maximum volume no matter where you set the manual volume setting.

I typically run my engine volume between 30 & 40%  on my layout. If I am taking an engine where it will be run conventionally. I reset the volume to 100% using DCS.
