I test ran my first PS3.0 steam locomotive last night and it seems MTH has made improvements in steam chuffing and whistle effects - the chuffing was more deep sounding. The PRR banshee whistle had a background tone to it, like a 2-tone effect, but I don't think this was true quilling. Is there a way to actually quill the whistle? I have the latest software upgraded - 4.31.

BTW: Three of my PS2.0 steamers sound anemic - despite increasing volume - is this a sign that the batteries are depleted?

If you engine has quillable whistle function you will see a SPW soft key on the screen.  Press the soft key under the SPW and it will highlight.  At that point the thumbwheel becomes the whistle control and as you roll it, it will effect whistle.  If you press thumbwheel you get speed control and press again to go back to whistle.

When you press softkey again the SPW un-highlights and the thumbwheel reverts to normal, and the normal whistle button activates normal whistle.

As far as PS-2, if the volume starts loud then steps down to half volume, yes the battery could be bad.  Try charging with MTH charger.  If no improvement, replace.

If just overall anemic, maybe a bad speaker this is assuming it sounded better before and now is degraded.   Otherwise may be normal.  G

I followed GGG's instructions and the quilling whistle works! It's a good effect, although I'd prefer if I didn't have to scroll between SPW to activate it.

Regarding weak sounds - I did a feature reset also as GGG suggested on the PS2.0 steamers and that did the trick - they're back in operation with robust sounds again.

As I am using DCS again the familiarity with the system is slowly coming back to me.

I know this is an old thread but I'm hopeful that I will still get an answer (?). GGG states above:
"All PS-3 and PS-32 have the code capability to do quillable whistle. "
I am a relative newcomer to MTH engines so I'm not sure if the aforementioned 'PS-32' is a typo and was intended to read 'PS-2' or 'PS-32' is just something I
have not heard about yet ? Thank you in advance !
