As you can see, I have a mix of trains.  I was wondering, if I have a single loop with sidings can I run a conventional set and a controlled set on the same (loop) layout.   This is what I envision.  MTH or LionChief on siding, not moving, Conventional in neutral on second siding.  Start conventional adjusting speed by transformer, then park conventional back on siding in neutral and start up MTH or LionChief.

Thanks,

EddieZ

how much voltage will the conventional have been running at? because the lionchief needs between 15 and 18 volts to run good.

the mth you did not state what it is, conventional or command.

I would use a switch or relay to control the power to the siding where the conventional engine would be parked.  Remember, any interruption in power will cause the conventional engine to cycle to the next mode.  A derailment that doesn't cause power to be shut-down will most likely cause the conventional engine to cycle to forward or reverse.

I have a similar setup on my layout and where I run conventional and command (of any sort).  I have sidings where I can shutdown the power to keep the conventional engines parked.
