I have the 2 rail PS2 version. I think it's a fun little engine to own. Mine run great and goes over my dead frogs on the Atlas 2 rail switches without issues. I pair it up with an F unit and they will pull as much as the bigger ones. That's without tires.

When I got it the battery was dead and I charged it overnight. It has run great ever since. The PS3 version won't have the battery.

I run my MTH Premier New York Central A-5 0-4-0 double-headed with an MTH New York Central 0-6-0. Both with PS-2 and good runners for quite a few years.

Melgar,

How well does it run through switches?  With the short wheel base I would think it would stall often.

Is there a pickup roller on the tender?

Thanks

Ron,

Both the 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 run through my Atlas O-54 switches without any hesitation or interruption of sounds. I have never had one stall. In response to your question, I looked at the underside of both locomotives. They both have two pickup rollers under the tender - one on each truck about four inches apart - and neither has a pickup roller under the locomotive. Certainly surprised me. After a wheel and track cleanup they ran flawlessly today.

Renewing this thread due to the same interest in this engine.

My question... If you have this engine, how does it run through turnouts?  I would think it would have a tendency to die in a yard full of switches due to the short wheel base.  Is there a pickup roller on the tender?

Thanks!

I have the UP 0-4-0 P3. Runs and smokes well. Pulled 11 Premier freight cars around the layout with no problem. Ran it frontwards and backwards through my 072 and 031 Kline Supersnap swithes. Stopped on one 072 switch but I think the switch was the problem. No problems through all the other switches even when there were 4 in a row. I'd but another one without reservations.
