Re: 5V PS2 Speaker/Sound Issues

Hello all, hoping someone could help me with a last-ditch effort for my PRR 2500 HP 20-2302-1. I bought the engine 6 months ago and the sound has always been very faint. Took the shell off to find the dreaded speaker flaking issue. It has the 16 OHM 5 volt STAR speaker. Bought a replacement speaker from a reputable seller on ebay. Plugged it in and no sound. Engine runs and responds to DCS commands but no sounds. Checked for pinched wires, even plugged in a different 16 OHM 5 volt replacement speaker I have... nothing. Did a factory reset on the engine but no luck. Could I have a bad amp or volume pot?

Any help would be great. If all else fails I may use this as an opportunity to try my hand at a PS3 upgrade.

I would put an ohm meter on the replacement speaker. If it reads 0 ohms, it probably finished off the amp.

The amp could have died before hand. The pot could be losing contact as well as the wiring. You have to troubleshoot at your end. You may even find a broken wire or a wire not making contact properly. Chances are good, that it reached it's time!

Thank you Joe. All contacts look good. No broken or pinched wires. I’ll have to get an OHM meter to troubleshoot with. I figured the boards have reached the end of their life so may give a PS3 upgrade a try.

The best thing you could do is have the boards tested. It could be the audio amp. If the boards are dead, a ps3/2 upgrade is cheaper and easier to accomplish than a complete ps3 upgrade.

If everything is working but the sound, member GGG can probably replace the amp component.

I have the audio amps for 3 volt and five volt boards and I can replace it for you not to expensive!
