I can see I won't be able to order correct side rods.  Good thing I have some that are close, in nickel silver.

Agreed.

Bob Stevenson can't locate the set I've wanted for an FEF.  I know you did the masters for him years ago. I'd purchase a set from you if you have an extra laying around. Would take more than one set if you have spares-a lot of FEFs around here.

contact me off line if interested.

Alex,

Wasn't the '09 version Pittman powered? Can't remember....

Yes the 09 version was a Pittman motor. New version is a Cannon motor.

Alex, that's one fine hooter on that sucker! It sounds very similar to the Vision Big Boy on camera. What's it like in the real world? Can't wait till mine comes in.

Very nice whistle, it does sound close to the Big Boy whistle. Overall the engine in person is beautiful. It runs very smooth and looks great.

Alex

Maybe that is because the "big three" steam locomotives on the UP (4000 class, 3900 class and 800 class) all used the same brand of whistle.

Alex,

I know this thread is a little over 1 1/2 yrs old,   but I have a question on the roller collectors on the bottoms of the locomotives.   I see that the newer version FEF has a double roller setup for the lead collector,  whereas the older version(which I have) just has the single roller.   I own the older 6-11116 Greyhound 844 and there are times that when going over certain switches(especially Ross double crossovers among others) the roller spacing causes the locomotive to drop power and come to a stop unless it is rolling along at a good clip.   So,  after looking at your comparison picture of the locos bottoms,   my question is that in your opinion does it look like I would be able to simply swap out the single roller for the double roller setup in the lead collector position on my older FEF?   Of course this would mean purchasing the double roller setup along with the correct insulators and longer screws(if needed).   If you have a chance,  let me know what you think.   Thanks

Ok Alex,  thanks for your reply.   I'm going to order the parts and give it a shot.   Hopefully I didn't waste all my working years as a machinist if I can't make something this simple work.
