682 Linkage Broken

PS-- I hope this is in fact fix-able. I'm a bit worried here.

You can press the broken stud out from inside the boiler with a small punch or similar. You can email me your address for a replacement.

we have found that most of the time we can get the broken pice out with a mini screwdriver . We try to catch part of the broken pice and turn it out.

lots of times this. Works for us.we try not to drill if don't have to.

There was a thread in November "What to do with a broken screw" which had lots of good suggestions in it.  The miniature screw extractors are an effective tool. They are well described in the November thread.

Are you certain that was a screw?

I believe they are pins.

I am fairly certain I obtained these before the 8404 was made, and that they are original Lionel Corp parts.

As Chuck wrote, you should be able to push the pin out from the inside of the shell.

And it sounds like he has replacements.

If you look closely at the photo, you will see that that the body of the pin is knurled (has ridges).
