Hello,

I am trying to update the sound file on my PS3 engine. I tried getting the sound file from the engine to back it up, and I tried uploading a new sound file to the engine. Both result in the same error, Get_Engine_Type_State. The screen capture of the error is below.

The TIU is updated to version 5. I am using DCS Loader version 5 on a Windows 10 PC. I am using a Belkin USB to serial adapter. I used this adapter to update the TIU to version 5. The Loader finds the TIU and sets the engine address. It is failing at the engine type set. Any ideas what I can do?

Thanks,

George

Several people have reported having to load these drivers for Windows 10:

MTH Proto-Sound 2.0 and Technology Welcome

If this link doesn't work, they are the last entry on the MTH DCS Protosound page.

Also, I had a serial to usb cable a while back that caused errors as soon as the file transfer started. I had a Rev L TIU and finally found my proper USB cable and then everything worked perfectly. This was with v5 of the loader, but I was using Windows 7 at the time. I haven't yet tried the DCS loader with Win 10, but that is coming soon.

Thank you both. I will try the drivers later as they may help. The Loader program may be too slow for my PC. After running the program in XP compatibility mode and hitting 'retry' randomly and an absurd amount of times, the file download process started. The program says it will take 22 minutes and I already had to hit retry at 1% complete. Will let you know if this finishes. I may need a new serial adapter or will try the drivers.

My problem was my USB serial adapter on my Windows 10 PC. Luckily I had an old Vista machine with a regular serial port. It took me some time to get it working again, but it worked right away without any errors. Thanks for your help, and if you hear about similar problems, you will know one possible solution now.

Glad you got everything going, who knew that Vista would come through to save the day?

FWIW, the USB to serial device I have is the one recommended by Mike Reagan in one of the Lionel videos (may be a Tripp-Lite?).  Anyway it works perfectly with the Legacy programs and my Legacy system. Just gave up on it with the DCS loader. However, that was Win 7, I haven't yet tried either one with Win 10.

I am trying to utilize a PS2.0(5V) board which is installed within a Mikado sound file that is now living within a RK-Challenger (Cab #1206) Western Maryland).......Can't seem to be able to remove the Mikado sound file; want to be able to download to the challenger!  Should be pretty easy except that I took my stupid pills in lieu of vitamin pills.  Been away from hobby for 2 yrs but am doing my best.  Thanks in advance, etc.

I don't think you have to remove the file, just write (download)  over it.

I think he is trying to download the Mikado sound file from the engine to use it in a different engine.

Marty, have you tried getting the Mikado sound file from the MTH website?
