I just got the 2013 Peanuts Christmas set via a post-Christmas sale. I have two similar Lionel 0-8-0 locos from recent years & know they are pathetic smokers.... but this one is not smoking at ALL! I put about 8 drops of Lionel fluid in... & have run the loco at high speeds with added loading. Still no smoke! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Is it turned on? Page 9 of the manual. Under the cab.

Yes......
My Gingerbread Junction Loco doesn't smoke either unless I turn it all the way up and hold it barely touching rails to get it going then after couple minutes I put back all the way on track and still no smoke. I just shut mine off.
Might be time to open it up and take a look inside to see if the element is heating.

Yeah.... UPS just delivered it yesterday. Not doing that.
Well it's out of warranty from Lionel since it's from 2013 so I guess you can try to return it for a refund.
Ron - It's a RTR set, not the best components Lionel has to offer. As someone who has opened them up, tinkered with and broke enough things I would offer one bit of advice. Turn off the smoke and save your sanity. Probably not what you want to hear as we all expect new products to work, but in the toy train world that's not always true.
Throw a super chuffer in it.

And how would that help since a superchuffer needs TMCC?

Thanks Jeff. I fully get your point, but we shouldn't accept its level on the "product spectrum" as an excuse for its failure to operate. I had been toying with getting this set for a couple of years. Just this I week decided to go for it when I saw that one of the major sellers we all know has it on special clearance sale @ $150 w/o track or transformer. Very disappointed.
I hear you. I cant remember a recent time when i bought a train brand new without some level of disappointment..
Sad, and seems to only be getting worse....

Ron - I'm not saying to accept it! I've broke more stuff trying to get things to work and in your example almost spent more than the original cost of the set!!! It ****es me off Lionel has these warranty issues where you buy something new in the box from an authorized dealer yet it's out of warranty. Just doesn't seem right in my book.

Worth a try at either (1) refund or exchange from dealer or (2) contact Lionel and see if they will look at it under warranty. You don't know for sure until you ask. It's really the dealer's responsibility at this point.
Just a follow-up to my post about the "non-smoking" Lionel Peanuts Christmas loco. I abandoned the smoke fluid in the little white plastic bottle that Lionel supplies with the loco & put in a few drops of JT's Mega Steam..... Partial success! While it isn't belching out smoke by any means, it is emitting some pathetic little whiffs of smoke that you essentially must hold a flashlight onto in on order to see! Maybe with continued running, the old Lionel fluid will be gone & performance improved with the Mega Steam.
Toss that junk that came with it!

YES! Exclusively use MegaSteam otherwise, but I thought I would help get rid of the China-made Lionel fluid in cranking this loco up. Bad idea.
