I tip my hat to you sir. I didn't even consider 12'ers. At the very least, take a sharpie marker and sign and date a wall stud.

The sheetrock I hung in my attic train room kicked my tail, and that was back in 2010  (I was 52)!  I wish now that I had hired a professional to tape and mud. You'll want to get all of your train stuff out of the room when you start finishing and sanding. It's a real mess when you do!!

Hey Mike- the drywall looks good. As for the tape and spackle- slow and steady wins the race. I really like the fiberglass joint tape. It's self-adhesive so you can stick it on the joints before applying the mud. Much cleaner and easier. I use a screen type sanding pole that connects up to my shop vac. Not totally dust free but its about 80% effective. I use the wet sponge method for fine tuning at the end.

Time capsule ideas- print this thread to date. I like Tank's paw prints too! Maybe an old junker box car that you could live without too.

Bob

You know Mark, for someone who has been around for awhile! Cabinet Bob still comes up with great ideas! LOL

Bob, I too like the fiberglass tape. No spackle, I am going to try and make the walls as smooth as I can! I really like the idea of an old box car, I can print this thread up along with a picture of Tank and slide it inside!

But here is a question, how do I go about printing this thread up?

P.S. My wife now calls the train room the new Master Bedroom! Just because it is turning out nicer then the one in the house! LOL

Looks great Mike! Glad you survived the sheetrocking and good luck with the taping. The room looks really nice and it's starting to look more and more like a train room with each new picture posted.

I went to Costco yesterday and there was a large stack of these that caught my eye. Just turned around and they were right there looking at me. Even had the Inspector's picture on them!  An omen possibly? I think they were trying to say something like... 'Don't forget the Inspector'!

RTR it wouldn't surprise me if he was out there taking on side work! Man sometimes it is just hard enough to wake him up to come and inspect, and now that I have carpet in the train room, he comes out to inspect and forget about it and lays down for more nap time! LOL I sure do love this big dog!

Hi Everyone I got the last piece's of sheetrock in place and the first coat of mud on! But before I closed everything up I put a few things in the train room time chest. I put an S scale crane car, and envelope with the story of the build to date, Pictures of my wife and Tank, and one of me with Tank. Sealed it up and put a picture of Tank on the outside guarding everything! Here are a few pictures.

Great Idea !  I Love it !

I like the pictures of Tank as a toddler! Real cute puppy! Also good ideas for the time capsule, especially the pictures. Wonder what the folks will think upon discovery of it? Imagine they will be surprised and want to investigate further?

Maybe Tank is sneaking too many of Mom's special treats? Being stuffed would make one take a lot of naps too!

Hi all, well I posted on what did you do on your layout, and now I am posting here. I woke up at 3:30 this morning and was out to the train room by 4 AM. I wanted to get the painting done so off I went. Took me 3 hours but I got it all done. Which was a good thing cause I had to get to work!

My thought was if when I get home it looks good I am happy! I was excited when I looked at it after work, but after looking harder I can still make out some of the places I mudded. It not real easy to see, but I am thinking about another coat. That way it wont bug me down the road!

Hell Here is what it looks like now, getting closer!20180725_18151920180725_181528

Looks great, Mike. You are awesome!

New sheetrock is thirstier than a newborn, as you well know. When in doubt, add still another coat of paint. I wouldn't worry much about the joints and corners already done by brush, but another hit with the roller might satisfy.

Mike,

That looks great! I think if you play around with the lighting you'll find that the job is good enough. Paint isn't gonna hide the tape seams. I don't see any from New Jersey.

It's done!

This color paint is interesting when you change the color of the lighting ( between bright white and warm white gradients) and the angle that it hits walls. Also, the brightness will have an effect, too.

Also, remember when you get the trains and scenery in there with different colors it will change the look.
