Hi,

i'm new here and new also to Lionel trains, in fact I know almost nothing about them and only have bought a few trains so far.

I decided to make a display and I started looking and found pictures of Lionel dealer displays, most of the information was from this site. I don't know if the size is wrong as I have drawn the design from photos. This is what I done so far, it is taking me a long time as a while back all my tools were stolen. I have also cut the backside.

As you can see from my bad photos, I have made the main part in 2 pieces, it was not my first choice but it will have to do. It has been cut from 1/4" ply, I know not not correct as it is only a copy. I don't have a good color match for the green though and may be hard to get as I am stuck here in England! The next job is to make the shelves, I don't know how thick they are, but was going to cut them from 3/4" plywood.

Does anyone have any detailed photos of a D-133 they can share, it would be greatly appreciated!

Dom.

Hi Joe, thanks for that, though I think I may have seen that already!

The parts I am now stuck on are the paint color, the thickness of the shelves and how the lights and wiring are done. As far as I can see, the top shelf has a groove on the bottom with the wiring in for the accessories. This is covered in the paper, then painted. I going to make the frame out of 1" x 4", I think that is the same size wood stock that was used for the train table part, but I'm not totally sure.

Forum member jagrick has seen the most originals of those that post here on the forum.

I believe that the original top was a front and back made of a fiber board material. The wire for the Lionel backlighting the downward shelf wiring ran through the hollow sides. There was a hole in the table for the plug to pass through where the top attached to the table.

Here's a thread by CharlieS that has an original D-133 with good provenance. Should help your work. Very nice work, by the way!

The matching green is very tricky. I think jagrick has come the closest over time. Most originals have faded over time and the shade varied slightly through the display years.

Originals were a fiber board with a green paper applied (as supplied my manufacturer). 1/4" thick. Two parts upper and lower about midway up leg. I'll see if I have a code for green, BUT I have seen many shades so close is good. I will get some shots of my original D133 shelving and construction details. Standard 4ft fluorescent single bulb fixture works.

Thanks, any pictures would be great. I have tried to work out the dimensions from the photos posted on here, it looks like the original display, but if I find out it is totally different then I might re-make it. Your train room is just simply amazing!
