Midweek Photos 5/17/2017 [Real Trains]

Found these two on Monday.

NS 5642 "Training First Responders" and the safety train sits in the Stiles street yard that used to service the GM Linden plant. Tomorrow, I take the afternoon class in the NS OAR program.

A little Heritage unit action at the Rt 333 overpass near Thompsontown, Pa.

For the first part of the year I concentrated on the northeast part of my state.  Now, I'm more focused on the southeast corner as I build up my inventory of Dakota & Iowa RR (DAIR) photos.  This is probably the railroad I've photo'd the most over the years.  It's a shortline owned by a regional quarry company that came into existence with the break up of the Milwaukee Railroad.  It follows the Big Sioux River along the border between South Dakota and Iowa.  The typical train has about four EMD engines and mostly consists of rock hoppers carrying ballast/gravel, gondolas carrying chunky rocks, and tankers from the one ethanol plant along the line. 

1. Obligatory shot of n/b crossing the trestle at Sioux Falls.

2. A meet at the Chatsworth IA siding as the sun sets.

3. Angus cattle with spring calves at Hawarden, IA

4.  WPA (wildlife production area) land south of Fairview, SD

5. Jefferson, SD.  I used a slow shutter speed to try to give a sense of movement to the train.  Not sure if I like the shot or not.

A photo of Michigan Central hudson 5369 sitting on what is now the mainline of the railroad at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI in the 1940's.  I stumbled across this print on Ebay and bought it.  I'm going to the research center at work this coming week and hope to find a little more information about why it was there.

Tim, I was hoping that you were able to get a shot of Third Avenue Railway open car #651 being dropped off at the trolley museum but you must have missed it.  If I can get down there this weekend I'll take a couple photos - she's in Bay Four.  

Glad to see that #26 is on the move again!
