THE LCCA IS NOW IN TALKS WITH LIONEL LLC AND CONSIDERING MAKING BETWEEN 150 T0 200 MAXIMUM AF SETS. THIS IS A MARKET TEST. IF BY CHANCE IT DOESN'T PAN OUT NO MORE SETS WILL BE PRODUCED. THERE ARE MANY O GAUGE MEMBERS WHO ARE NOW CONSIDERING PURCHASING SOME FLYER SINE THE INVENTION OF FAST TRACK, MODERN DIESELS AND SCALE ROLLING STOCK. WE HAVE NOT AND WILL NOT FORGET THE POSTWAR GUYS! YOU HAVE MY WORD.

I would guess its a safe bet that if the production run is 200 or less there will be nothing produced from "new" tooling. I am excited to see what is announced, please don't let it be some variation of the NYC docksider set! Something with a geep, alco, Baldwin or northern would be awesome. Just my opinion. Thanks for making the effort to reach out to us s gaugers! Ben

Yes a Northern would be nice. AFL-Pullman sure.

If I may put in my $0.02 worth, the SP&S Northern is not too far from the Flyer Northern, And with a clear plastic headlight applique with the non clear parts painted that fits around the cast UP headlight, you can mimic the distinctive large SP&S style. Look how close the tender is, and it's a fan-trip engine that exists today.

Either a set of heavyweight coaches or a freight with SP&S caboose would be great.

Here's a picture of the SP&S 4-8-4.

That's a shame about the Hudson. How would we go about putting pressure on them?

My biggest concern right now is Lionel's lack of support for scale wheels on the steamers. That is really going to limit my purchases of Lionel S steam. MTH is going to do it. Does Lionel really want to hand the whole scale steam market to them? Sorry, I digress...

I am looking fwd to the LCCA announcement!

Folks,

A scale proportioned Hudson, or even a redo of the AC Gilbert tooling with can motor and modern electronics, would cost too much at retail for a first LCCA set. Definitely can't see a newly tooled Hudson as the first  "S" thing out of the door for the LCCA.  Perfect for the broader S market, though.  In a larger sense, the Hudson as a locomotive choice for Lionel, should be almost self-evident

That said, Lou's comment that, "the Hudson is dead", by the Lionel people strikes me as very odd.  It wouldn't take much research for the Lionel marketing and executive folks to understand that there is a solid market for an AF S Gauge or S Scale NYC style Hudson.  Two staples of any line of trains larger than HO would be Santa Fe F-3s and NYC Hudsons. Besides, the chassis for a 4-6-4 could be used for a variety of steamers.

I do not believe that the experience with the proposed Hudson redo of 1988 should be used as a marker for any decision on making a Hudson locomotive now.

MTN,

You might be onto something there! (except for the Girl's Train)  ;>  .  Some items have already gone from  S to O in a few paint schemes that Gilbert had.  The B&O Sentinel and Celenese chemical cars come to mind.  But offhand I can't remember exactly when they were offered.  Check some of their older catalogs.

Now, MP Alco's.....   Yeah!

Jerry

6464s like Timken, Rutland, WP Feather, Alaska, Pennsy, B&O Sentinel (the B&O Timesaver blue and orange car overlapped), Rio Grande, NH - you sure those wouldn't look good in S?

Some Flyer boxcars O gauge guys might like as O gauge cars would be the red GN, L&N, GAEX, G. Fox - those cars would look great in different scales.  I'd suggest painting them with appropriate numbers from their respective manufacturers (6464 on the Flyer cars, 900/5 digit numbers for the Gilbert cars).
