MARK DIFF  started.....ttps://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/topic/display-diorama-build?

and put together a really outstanding diorama......looks really great !

soon Mark B joined in with a good start on his diorama....and then RSJB18 commented...

" I smell a "What did you do on your Diorama" thread starting soon. "   Bob

so let's all get started on " your Diorama ".... here is a blank slate to get you started....

try a small closet door as a base.....i got this one and others free off Craigslist....

i picked all this foam free off of Craigslist also....

i mocked this up the other day with  some scrap pieces.....

i threw this idea together at lunch time today.....2 diorama's connected together....

to be used together or each one on it's own.....

so grab your scrap pieces together and start building your idea .....it's really fun !

Good idea Brain.  Let's see what shows up...

In the early stages of my layout build, I made several small dioramas using 1/8" masonite and then placed them into the layout in various places. This was probably the first one and it became more detailed as I was able to...

Here is a diorama I built last year for the Team Track Tuedays' threads...

Again just some scrap foam, a couple of pieces of old Gargraves track  left over from a previous layout and some plaster cloth...

0911161549

The basic backdrop, this time a sheet of foamcore board painted, blue with the clouds spray painted on...

0911161351

0902161521

After the initial paint and ground cover applied. Just sitting outside to dry...

0912161649aa

0912161649b

Finally with some trees added and the backdrop attached...

0913160118

0913160119

The first delivery. It was here, that the townsfolk started to lobby the railroad for a heavy lift crane...

0913161252

Subsequently, to increase the acerage of the diorama, I added an additional 6 inch strip across the front and later added the crane with a maintenance shack. Check them out on any Team Track Tuesday thread!

The really nice thing about dioramas is that they can be a laboratory of sorts, where ideas can be tried out, techniques and skilled learned and practiced, with out worrying about messing up your layout. They can also be, as noted above, incorporated into an existing or new layout.

I never knew that this was not on a layout Mark. Nice work, sure do miss Mr. Haney though.

Bob

I keep on intending to do a diorama just to practice scenery for my train layout, also I way to figure out the best way for me to do a winter themed layout, since I eventually plan on doing a layout on the first floor of our house for R-T-R Sets, that my son can play with and I am not too worried about damage done to it. As well as let my wife see her 19th Century Steam Engine without having to go in the basement.

I've heard Mr Haney has gone back east. I think Patrick has seen him a few times.
