I'm working on an upgrade project (Lionel 18018 - Southern 4501) and hoping to use an MTH 10-pin tether to connect the tender to the locomotive. I haven't found a female connector that looks like it will fit they way I want on the MTH webiste. Is the female connector a proprietary design? Does anyone know anymore about these connectors, perhaps a manufacturer and part # (I'll make one that works for me).

ERR has tethers available of various types. There is nothing proprietary about tethers to my knowledge.
ERR's connectors are very clunky when compared to the MTH connectors.
MTH BC-1000002 is the part number for the universal tender tether.
MTH AG-0000039 is the part number for the locomotive matching connector.
If you can get them from MTH then thats your best bet. If you want to make your own the header is Hirose item. I use 2 mm pitch vector board and have made a few. Depends on how many you expect to use.
