Gunrunner John,  I tried to order the battery cables from Lionel, but they don't put them in the engines anymore, so they will not be handling these parts in the future.  How will I connect my YLB batteries I purchased if the sound battery cable is no longer available?

I'm looking at a variant that will have a direct connection to the RS-Lite board, I made myself a couple and put one in my H10 for testing.  Same product, just replace the battery clip with a cable.  When I get a new order of the YLB boards in, I'll add these to the product line for newer Legacy stuff.

Gunrunner John,  Do you have any battery cables available for the two YLB I purchased last month?  I see you have three more at Henning's Trains. I was hoping to get batteries in my steam engines to prevent damage to the sound systems.  I will call Henning's Friday morning.  Thanks. 

I have three H-10: Pennsylvania Lines #1709, Western Allegheny #85, and the soon-to-arrive Pennsylvania #1773 Coal Hauler H-10.  I like these small steam engines and may sell many of my large articulated steamers.  My 990 doesn't have room for half of my engines.  I will need many YLB.

What will conventional Lionel operators do to power the sound at start up and shut down?  I don't think Lionel has thought this through, … or doesn't care.  Without a battery cable for sound support power, the small engine's sound systems will take a beating going over large footprint switches and cross-overs.

I have come to the conclusion that the corporate people who make the decisions about Toy trains Do not run them themselves.  "What good is 'talking to them' if they do not understand 'the language of model railroading' ?

I think conventional operators will just put up with the sounds cutting out regularly.

I don't know that it'll harm the sounds, just makes them annoying to run with sound on.

FWIW, one of the design goals of the YLB was to charge at low voltages where conventional operation would be running at.

I have a few cables, send me an email and we'll get you what you need.

clarification

I have battery cables from the ERR kits that I was thinking of using. However there seems to be a polarity problem on the plug on the cable compared to the Bruk diagram of the railsounds lite diagram. Don't know if

if the plug is wrong on the cable, the circuit board plug is wrong or the Bruk diagram is wrong, or the ERR battery cables are different and should not be used

any comments? or am I way off base?

The ERR board and the RS-Lite board have the same battery connection, and AFAIK, the same polarity.

Put another way, I installed my YLB into the H10, and it works using the ERR cable.

Look closely at the picture from Bruk's document...

Note the contacts in the battery plug are to the right of center in this picture.  If I orient the ERR battery cable to plug into this connector, the red lead is on the bottom and the black lead is on the top.  Looks right to me.

A WARNING!  There are cables for PS/2 floating around with a 2mm connector that will fit into the battery plug on the RS-Lite board, they are wired in reverse polarity!
